Birds began to sing as the sun rose above the horizon, until a scream pierced the air, sending them cawing away in shock.

"No! You can't have them!" A man with dark brown hair yelled. His teal shirt was ripped and bloody, and his jeans were no better. His bare feet skidded across the cold stone floor, and he ran forward, rushing his brother. Their swords clashed, and the man's eyes started to glow.

"I must! It's for the greater good!" His brother shouted back. The man's arms slacked, until they dropped to his side. His sword clanked against the ground. His brother smirked.

"A wise choice, Hero. But they are coming with us." An explosion went off behind Herobrine, making him fly forward. He blacked out for a moment, but opened his eyes and lifted his head. His ears rang, and when he reached up to feel them his fingers felt something sticky.

He drew his hand back to see fresh blood. He collapsed again, barely managing to keep his eyes open. He saw Steve walk towards the lit Nether portal, carrying a sleeping young girl around two, and holding the hand of a boy the same age as the girl.

"I'm sorry Hero," Herobrine heard Steve mutter. The boy looked at Herobrine, then up at Steve.

"Isn't daddy coming with us?" He asked. Steve rested his hand on his head and just sighed. He lifted the boy into the portal, then climbed in himself. The girl awoke just in time to disappear through the portal, only getting a small glimpse of their dad before the three of them were teleported to the OverWorld.

Herobrine sat up, dragging himself to the wall and rested his back against it. He brought his knees up to his chest and rested his forehead on his knees, crying softly. Then a thought struck him.

He jumped to his feet, ignoring the throbbing pain coursing through his body, and ran as fast as he could to the kids' room.

"Mia? Mia, are you here?" He called out desperately. When no reply was heard, he fell to his knees.

"Daddy?" A scared, muffled voice asked. He looked up, opening the wardrobe, which is where the voice had come from. A girl tumbled out and into his arms, her long, curly, dark hair framing her small face. Her blue eyes were filled with fear, and she threw her arms around her dad, gripping his shirt as tight as she could. He stood up, hugging her.

"Why did the scary man take Jaxon and April?" The two year old asked.

"I don't know sweetheart. But you will meet again, soon. I promise." His eyes started to fill with tears, but he blinked them away, not wanting Mia to be scared any more than she already was. He set her down, and gripped onto her hand tightly, feeling her small hand hold his just as tight. She looked up at him and smiled innocently.

"Okay, daddy."
