I don't understand how I got up and went out to the field after that happened. But I did it, I put Eden's note in my pocket and just kept walking. She never left my head though. Her essence was still on me, I could still feel where her hands touched me, I can still taste her, I can still smell her. It was all still there and I never wanted it to leave. But, the question kept swirling around in my head. Why did she kiss me?
I managed to make it out to the field without killing myself trying to figure her out.The field was just that, a field. There isn't much except grass. I could see Matt and Drew sitting down with a fire lighting infront of them. I sat down beside Matt and folded my legs and watch the flames dance and spit. "You look delightful", Matt remarked and handed me a cigarette. "Thanks." I took the cigarette from him and lit it, inhaling the death and exhaling the life.
Amelia arrived, sitting herself next to Drew, taking a swig from her bottle of wine, which she explained to us was her's and only her's, and if anyone tried take some, she wouldn't slowly murder them. So as you can tell, I was staying sober this evening.
We just talked all evening about things that would have made us appear to be an ordinary group of teenagers with ordinary lives and ordinary adventures with ordinary thoughts. We probably were on our owns, when Dakota wasn't around. When Dakota came, she half strolled, half floated towards us and sat next to me. I was probably closest with Dakota. I found her, interesting. The way she thought was so different to everybody else. I just liked to be around her and to listen to what she had to say all the time.
When she sat, she kicked off her sandals and put her feet facing the fire. She flexed her toes in and out as the glowing embers warmed her feet. She turned her head and smiled down at everybody. "Hello!" Greetings were all directed back to her as she grabbed a cigarette from Matt, taking a long drag as she exhaled the smoke rings, smiling to herself as they floated away into the stars.
Drew shook his head scoffing to himself. "You guys are all so stupid," we all looked over at him, with eyebrows raised wanting him to continue. "Why do you all smoke? To look cool? Because you don't, you're all just killing yourselves!" Dakota laughed to herself. "Oh Drew, that's the whole point." Then she took another drag, blowing the smoke in his direction, silencing us all. Dakota was good at that, creating silence.
