"..we fell in love, right by the ocean.."
- oceans by coastsMichael was confused. He sat on the rocks and watched as the waves came racing in, pushing full force towards the shore and crashing against the sand like an explosion of nature.
He sat and counted all the stars he could see in the sky above his head. Michael often wished he was one of them; sitting above every being on earth and observing the world as he kept an eye on those he loved. He wished he could run, get away from everything and become a star, but he couldn't.
The beach was empty as far as the boy could see, which he was pleased about. He didn't want to see couples sharing secret rendezvous, he didn't want to see other individuals on the rocks. He didn't want to see anyone, not even his own reflection in the ocean.
The boy rolled up the ankles of his jeans, pulled off his tattered shoes, pulled off his polka dot socks and put them on the rocks next to him. He pushed himself off of the rocks and walked into the ocean, the waves crashing around his ankles as he held his arms out, as if he was flying.
Michael felt free, his mind was open and his eyes were closed, he breathed in the salt air and laughed. He laughed because he was alone, he laughed because his ankles were freezing and the crotch of his jeans got splashed by the waves.
Michael laughed and laughed until tears were streaming down his cheeks and his laughter turned into choked sobs. He needed this, he needed to let every emotion out of his mind, so he screamed.
He screamed until his lungs gave out, his body falling into the waves as he caught his breath.
