Alyssa looks at her wristwatch. It's past 9 pm. She's on her way out of UP campus where she was invited to speak for young athlete's conference joined by athletes around Manila which was hosted by the university. The said conference seemed also a mini reunion where she was reunited with her fellow UAAP athletes back then. It has been a while since she last saw them. After graduating from UAAP, she spent the last three years playing here in the country and abroad. Most of her time was spent on the professional leagues abroad due to the contracts she signed. But still, during the off-season she tried her best to come home and somehow participate in the local leagues for her fans even though she can't really play in full season.
She tried to call Kieffer twice but the latter didn't answer. He's maybe tired in practice and fell asleep. She sighed.
She and Kieffer had been together for almost a year now. He started to court her during their last UAAP playing year but Alyssa talked to him if it's fine if they won't rush anything. She's busy with her masteral's degree as well as her volleyball career and she wants him to focus in his study too and entering PBA after, she reasoned. Kieffer understood and said it was perfectly fine. She knew she's ready to give the guy a chance, but mostly to give herself a chance. Everyone around her said that she's already drowning herself too much in study and volleyball she's not actually living her life. But this is the life I wanted, she often reasoned. So when Kieffer admitted he likes her more than a friend, she knew the guy is worth giving a chance. But she just wanted them to take things slowly. Kieffer is a very close friend and she doesn't want to ruin that.
So the courtship/friendly dates lasted for 2 years because they became so busy and only saw each other sometimes, before they took the relationship to the next level. The relationship is fun and fine. Kieffer is a nice boyfriend, calling her every day and keeps her laughing. Everything went smoothly until these couple of months ago. It seemed they are hitting quite a rough road since Kieffer became a big name in PBA and his team is constantly in the finals and her schedule also became tighter as her manager is considering accepting offers from European countries for her to play there. She wanted to talk with Kieffer but their schedule hindered them from doing such.
" Kieff, call me asap when you wake up." She just left a voice message to him hoping he would give a call sooner. While driving slowly, she passed a coffee shop where a few groups of students seemed having a good time. Her eyes caught a group of students wearing an Ateneo hoodies.
She suddenly remembered that Ateneo is not far from where she is right now. She doesn't know why but she felt she needs to pay her alma matter a late night visit, though she doubts if the guards will allow her to enter this late. But she decided to try her luck.
Luckily, the guards immediately recognized her and allows her to enter with no questions asked, except for an autograph and a couple of selfies for their daughters they said.
She headed to the Blue Eagles Gym and is a bit surprised to see that one or two lights are still on inside the gym. She wondered if there are still students practicing inside but no noise can be heard so she thought maybe someone forgot to turn all the lights off. She parked her car just outside the entrance and slowly walked inside.
She's wearing a fitted black dress and a black stilettos with her straight hair hang loose. The conference ended with a socialization night so she felt a little tired wearing heels and decided to take it off. She just clutch the heels in her hands and walk bare footed, not minding the cold floor. It was a little dark because the only light illuminating comes from the shower room at the far end of the gym. She settled herself to sit in the chairs near the side of the net.
