imagine you're in one of the systems the destroys and end up breaking a promise to kylo
♡
THE SOUND OF heavy footsteps scrambling outside her home thankfully awoke her from her far from peaceful slumber. Her mind was heavy with confusion, wondering as to what all the ruckus could be about on a Monday morning.
Y/N let out a tired groan from her flushed lips before scrambling out of bed, her tattered maroon blanket hitting the dirt floor.
Though her nightmare from a few minutes prior had already confirmed what the situation was, there was still a small ray of hope that was deciding to prove her wrong.
Maybe it was just a nightmare, she had tried convincing herself as her feet led her outside where a large group of civilians was formed and looking up at the irregular sky.
But Jedi don't have nightmares.
"What's going on?" Y/N asked a nearby man, eyebrows scrunched up in fear as she examined the horrifying scenery; a deja vu feeling filling her chest as she awaited his response.
"That." A scrawny shaky finger pointed up at the once empty sky where a bright red light was illuminating from it, pumping more fear into their hearts than curiosity. "I fear that it's going to kill us." The man nervously mumbled.
Y/N calmly nodded, stepping away from the scene in an attempt to regain control back in her system. Her end was near, she was sure of that much, but another task burdened her mind - saying goodbye to the man responsible for her death.
In another system, Kylo's eyebrows scrunched up in confusion under his mask at the feeling of something or someone probing around in his mind. The feeling being one that he's used to giving not receiving.
'Ben.'
If it weren't for the mask shielding his face, General Hux probably would have questioned what could he possibly be thinking about with the expression his face was giving away.
The situation in front of him, the name, her voice faltering at the end - it was all too much to take in so quickly.
'Ben, I'm sorry but I think I'm going to have to break our promise. I don't think I'll be able to see you again like I promised.'
Kylo's gloved hands softly shook at his sides, making him ball them up into fists as he tried to calm himself while trying to fool himself into piecing together her choppy messages.
Even though, the answer was crystal clear to him the moment he heard his name being called in his mind after so long.
'I'm going to die, they're going to hit us and I'm so scared.'
It was an internal war in his mind as he struggled against defying the decision being made and just watching as his childhood friend was disintegrated along with the rest of her system.
'I'm not angry at you. I understand that this was out of your control, well kind of.'
The genuine laugh that he hadn't heard in years filled his mind, with a hint of nervousness laced in between it. He had missed it and this would most likely be the last time hearing it.
'I just want you to know that I'm so-'
"Wait." His command cut off the rest of her apology, or so he'd like to think. He took on step forward from his place in the back in an attempt to stop the machine but was too late.
"Never mind." His eyes were glued to the destruction occurring before his eyes, where his friend was gone forever. "Continue on to the next system." He weakly ordered, the breaking in his voice hidden by the mask's voice changer.
