Hey everyone, this is the first part to my story My Alpha Mate. Enjoy!

Darkness. It surrounded me quickly, and continued to haunt me as I ran. I had been running for what seemed like hours, only having the ability to continue due to the adrenaline currently coursing through my veins. I could still hear the pounding of three sets of paws behind me, getting closer and closer, never slowing down. The sounds of crunching leaves underneath my own paws, combined with my laboured breaths filled my ears, threatening me to give up. I willed myself to persist, knowing that I was in a life or death situation. If I stopped, I would end up like the rest of the Dark Night pack I had belonged to up until a few hours ago. Dead.

The Black Shadow pack invaded our lands, destroying everything and everyone who got in their way. Most packs, when they invade another, only kill those who fight them, but spare the women and children. This was not the case for the Black Shadow pack, who mercilessly killed women and children. Somehow, during their attack, I managed to stay hidden, well to a certain point anyway.

Many may consider me a coward for hiding, and not doing anything to help my fellow pack members, but those who did attempt to defend our people were easily taken down by the Black Shadow Warriors. Even if I wanted to help, I physically couldn't. As I watched the people I had grown up with, being murdered, I went into a state of shock; rooted to my spot. It wasn't until there was no one left but me, and the warriors began to search the lands, that shook me out of my trance. It was then that I began running.

My wolf sensed that I was coming up to another pack's territory. It was a enormous risk to cross the borderlines of someone else territory, and the punishment for doing so, could result in death. However, in many cases, if the Alpha deemed the wolf was not a threat to the wellbeing of the pack, then said wolf was allowed to join the pack. So, I could either continue running, where the wolves chasing me will either stop, or kill me, or I could enter this pack's territory and face the consequences, whatever they may be. In my current predicament, that was a risk I was willing to take.

I could feel myself nearing the border, the thundering of several paws still rushing behind me. Finally I reached it, and behind me, heard the wolves come to a screeching halt, sending a puff of dust in the air around them. The three wolves were clearly wary of the risks of crossing the borders, so they proceeded to bare their razor sharp teeth, letting loose menacing growls. I took a few steps back until I hit something behind me, causing my body to stiffen.

"All four of you, shift, now!" I lifted my head to look at the person standing behind me. He was well-built, about 6'2 in height, dark hair and bright blue eyes. His voice was stern, and the vibes I received from him, and my wolf instincts, indicated that he was a Beta.

The three other wolves were hesitant at first, but regardless, shifted anyway, each putting on a pair of shorts. I headed behind are large tree, and shifted, pulling on a large shirt that I had strapped to my leg before I ran. Cautiously, I moved from behind the tree, to meet the stares of four intimidating wolves.

"I am unaware as to why you are chasing this girl, however, she is currently on Red Moon land, and therefore it is the decision of our Alpha as to what happens to her. She is not your concern and I would ask that you please leave." The Beta was taller and stronger than the three wolves, leaving them no choice but to listen.

"Our Alpha won't like this, and he will be back for her," sneered the more powerful of the three wolves. They sent me a harsh glare, then turned and left, disappearing into the trees.

"What is your name," asked the one remaining wolf. Although he had ridded me of the three wolves who chased me, I still did not trust him.

"Riley," I replied, attempting to keep the fear out of my voice, despite the fact that I was scared, and my heart was beating a million miles a minute.

"Well Riley, my name is Ryder, and I am the Beta of the Red Moon pack. I think it is time to pay a visit to the Alpha." I nodded my head and proceeded to follow after him as he led me through the woods to the Alpha who would decide my fate, and ultimately, whether I live or die.

After about five minutes of walking, Ryder and I emerged through a clearing, and I saw an amazing house. It was white and situated on a rather large piece of land, covered in grass. There were three levels to the house, and each level had one window on each side of the front of the house. Directly below the bottom windows sat a lovely, well-groomed flower bed, and as I got closer to the front door, the aroma of these flowers filled my nose.

Ryder opened the door and led me through the house. From the mixture of scents throughout the house, I could automatically conclude that I had just entered the pack house. Even though it was the pack house, it was extremely clean and tidy, but despite this, had a homey feel to it, which differed from my own pack house at home.

I was guided down a hallway, and as I got closer, I began to feel a buzzing in my chest. I pushed the feeling aside, and decided that it was simply due to nerves about meeting the Alpha. The hallway was covered with images of what I assumed were people in the pack, as well as various artworks which helped to brighten the hallway, and add a bit of life. Once Ryder and I reached the end of the hall, we stopped behind a set of double oak doors. Ryder grasped both door handles in his large hands, and pushed them open.

Immediately as he did so, the most magnificent scent engulfed my senses. It smelled like freshly mown grass, and the earthy smell of the woods. I looked up at the person who had just stood behind the desk in the furthest part of the room. As his eyes met mine, something in my head just clicked, and it was as if we were the only two in the room. He then said the last thing that I expected to come from his mouth.

"Mate."

So I don't think anyone will read this, but anyway, if there is anyone out there who chooses to do so, thank you! Please comment with your thoughts, or construct criticism! Also please vote and share to let me know that you like it!
