New Year's Eve
***
"EVERYONE TO THE MANSION, NOW!"
Thomas opens a portal beneath Lite and I, and a few seconds later I hit the floor of the living room in the mansion. I stand up, a little dazed because I've never liked portal travel. A few more seconds later, Thomas is there, turning on the tv to the channel where they show the ball dropping. Lite sits down, while I remain standing.
Alice appears and sits down on the long couch, smiling. I look around, as familiar faces crowd the living room, the sounds of the tv screaming out.
I walk over to where Thomas is standing, noticing he looks a little stressed. "Why do you look so stressed?"
"Reasons"
I decide not to push it, so we stand in a bit of silence until the tv starts to countdown. "So, almost time," Thomas states. I shift my feet a little. "Almost the start of a new year," I respond.
"GUYS GUYS GUYS!" Thomas says as the final seconds tick.
Everyone counts down.
"5!"
Am I ready for the new year?
"4!"
Probably not.
"3!"
My heart starts to beat faster.
"2!"
I don't think I'm ready for the new year at all.
"1!"
The ball reaches the end of its drop and everyone screams, "HAPPY NEW YEAR!"
Thomas turns to face me, and I to him. "Welcome to the new year," I say, smiling.
I hear Alice starting to cry, but before I can turn and say anything, Thomas leans in and kisses me. I feel my face blush, and the sound of a camera taking a picture reaches my ears, but I didn't care. I was here, with him, on the start of the new year, and that's all I cared about. I knew I loved him, and he returned the feeling. That's all I ever wanted. Because I often asked myself, where would I be without Thomas? Probably holed up somewhere, sleeping, not giving and f**ks about the world.
Then I answered my own question: I was ready for the new year, only if Thomas was here with me.
