Chapter 2

I threw my shoes under island in the kitchen, as I grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge to drink. I took a seat on the cool marble counter as I glared at the never ending bag of groceries on it.

I had decided to go grocery shopping after work and now I felt pretty exhausted from all that weight lifting. Taking huge gulps of water, I closed my eyes enjoying the peace and quiet of my home.

The sun rays, which were slowly going out due to the sun setting, streamed in through the open window warming up my face.

I could stay in this moment forever.

But sadly the world hates me.

"IMANI!" her too-sweet-for-her-own-good voice yelled, breaking through the quiet atmosphere of my home.

"In the kitchen!" I yelled back, hopping off the countertop

"Why aren't you ready? " was the first thing out of her mouth when she stepped into the kitchen.

" What for?" I asked

"Um, for tonight's dinner with Shay? The one you promised you would come for last week" she said, crossing her arms across her chest

"What day and when?" I asked, taking out the contents of the grocery bags so I could arrange them

"On Saturday when I made you your favourite soup"

"You know of the rules. No making of promises when I'm eating the soup" I said, not looking at her

"But you promised" she said

"I was eating the soup so no promise made is approved"

"Bitch" she muttered under her breath

"What did you say?" I asked, giving her a glare "Nothing" she said. I waited for her to complain about how unfair I was being but all I got in return was silence. Not the good kind if you know what I mean. The type of silence that clearly states something is going to happen.

So when I heard a battle cry I wasn't surprised but what I wasn't prepared for was the cable ties. Yes, the same kind in the movies.

I tried untying it but she wasn't having it as she knocked me off my feet and began dragging me towards my room.

I obviously screamed about this being unfair and stating my human rights but she wasn't listening.

"Let me go!" I screamed, trying to bite her hand but she put me in a headlock and continued removing my work attire.

When she left me to get an outfit from my wardrobe, I took off in a sprint in only my underwear not caring about the cold that was biting at my skin.

My feet was just about to land on the soft plush carpet of the first floor when I tripped. Heading face first on the floor would have made ruined my face but no I landed in the strong arms of Shay Carter, also known as the boyfriend of my best friend Amanda Dave.

Staring at Amanda and Shay laugh about something utterly stupid and in their lovey dovey bubble made me realize something.

I am lonely.

I really hope I don't end up buying more cats than my aunts psychiatric and that is saying something because she had thirty-seven cats and counting.

I need to find me a man. I refuse to end up like her.

"I need to use the ladies room, I'll be right back so don't even move a muscle" Amanda said, giving him a kiss and with that she was gone.

"Soooo" I said, not knowing what to say considering I had never really met the guy. All I knew was that he worked as an architect and that he's filthy rich with two older siblings with a fear of spiders.

For the life of me I couldn't remember how I know his allergies and fear.

"Um, do you think she likes me?" he nervously asked, looking at me through his long lashes as he fiddled with the sleeves of his shirt.

"I guess. I mean your the first guy who she made me have an all nighter just so I could know you" I said "Really?" he asked all the confidence from earlier no where in sight.

"Yea. It's so bad that I know what type of meds you can't take, your fear of spiders, your love of Dora the Explorer, your allergies up to the point where I know your middle name. It's joke right? "

" Well yeah..... But that doesn't mean she likes me"

"Your right" I said, shaking my head

"I'm right?" he asked, a frown forming on his handsome face. He looked so sad it made me want to hug him saying it'll be alright. That's to say how bad the sight was because I never comfort people.

Like ever.

"Yes she doesn't like you because she loves you" I said and the smile I got was so much worth the teasing.

"So guys what did I miss?" Manda said, taking her seat "Just the fact that Mr Carter over here said hoe much he loves my articles" I said. Clearly she didn't buy it but let it slide.

And our dinner was okay. More than okay because of the triple banana ice cream I had for desert. Yeah I'm happy.

Manda and Shay had been saying that word for the last time that I was sick of hearing it. They wanted to see who would give up first and the answer would be my stomach. No matter how much I wanted to puke, my banana ice cream was going to stay down.

"Bye" she said

Before he could reply I was in between them "Bye she'll call you tomorrow" and with that said I shut the door in his face.

"That was totally uncalled for" she said, crossing her arms across her chest

"Well yeah but both of you butchered the word 'bye' but you don't hear me complaining" I said and by her smile I knew she wasn't mad.

Before she could complain, her phone rung and by the string of giggles she let out after checking the caller ID I knew who it was.

"Hi" she said, twirling a strand of hair round her finger. I groaned, and made a mad dash for my room not wanting to hear their conversation anymore.

I was sick as it was.

Dumping everything on my bed on the floor, I hopped on my bed quickly slipping into lala land.
