"Let's go in that store. It's, like, so gorgeous."
I followed Diane's gaze and eyed a boutique called White Rose, with a retro-looking white-and-black theme. Diane grabbed my arm and dragged me through the door. Diane went straight to a brunette salesgirl and asked, "Uh, excuse me, I'm having a party Friday, and my friends, Lindsay and Lil and I need the perfect outfits." The girl perked up and immediately started to lead us around the quaint little boutique, like a pack of dogs on leashes.
The girl, who introduced herself as Cleo, held up a combination of a black-and-white striped tank top, white skater skirt and a pink jean jacket. Diane circled around it, feeling the fabric in her hands and smoothing down the creases. She nodded to Lindsay, who snatched the outfit and dashed into a dressing room.
Cleo giggled nervously and held up another outfit: a teal crop top with lace on the bottom and a pair of cream-colored Capri pants. Diane scratched her ear and held the outfit against her and primped in front of the three-way mirror. Lindsay came out, looking stunning.
Cleo grinned.
Diane squealed, "OMG, they are absolutely perfect!" She grinned and pumped Cleo's head like she was hunting for gas. Cleo looked relieved as Diana thanked her. Diane gasped suddenly, her hands flying to her cheeks, and she turned to face me.
"We forget an outfit for you, Lil!" Lindsay said, confirming Diane's gasp. I looked kinda nervous, because Lindsay gave my hand a squeeze and a sweet smile. "Don't worry, you'll look gorgeous when we're done!" Lindsay turned back to Cleo and flashed her a wide and bright smile. "Let's do it!"
Cleo smiled weakly as she led us around the store, peeking in all of the racks, but I shot down all of them. I wanted to look my best for Diane's party. Suddenly, a sparkle caught my attention. I reached for it and pulled out an amazing jacket.
It was bright pink, with sequins sewn onto the smooth, crisp fabric. I shrugged it on and posed in front of the mirror. It made my skin glow pink, and it shone under the lights. I draped it over my arm and walked over to Diane, who was in the middle of a heated conversion with Cleo, and it looked like Diane was winning.
"...Cotton and polyester dress? Ha! In pale green with wide stripes! Do you think that Lil would be caught dead in that? I insist that..." she trailed off as she caught sight of me, her eyes on the sparkly jacket I held out to her. She squealed and fingered the collar. "Oh... my... gosh! Lil!" She almost tackled me with a hug. "That is perfect, so gorgeous. And now, just a dress, shoes, and accessories." She clapped her hands excitedly.
I looked into her pale blue eyes and said, "Yeah, let's shop!"
