Chapter 1: Evans, huh?
As the first bell rang, students of Malcolm Ridge High School began flooding the entrance. 16 year old Cora Evans jumped out of her brother's, James Evans, truck. She was starting her Junior year in a different school. She just hopes it's worth it. Cora waved goodbye to her brother and walked towards the entrance of the school. After going to the admission office, she got her locker number and was scanning through the hallway for it.
She suddenly bumped into someone. She looked up and her green eyes met a piercing blue ones. The guy that she bumped into was at least six feet tall. He was well-built but hidden under worn out baggy clothes. He was wearing a simple grey t-shirt underneath the grey hoodie and the black leather jacket. He wore torn jeans that hung nicely at his hip and he wore black boots. His hair was jet black and wavy and it was messily parted to the right. He also had both ears pierced but it was hidden under his long messy hair that was also partially hidden with a grey beanie. He looked like a real street skater or something of sorts.
Cora just stood there, getting lost inside those ocean blue eyes that carries so much pain, so much suffering. The second bell rang and the hallway began clearing as Homeroom was starting. One of Cora's friend who transferred a year before her grabbed her arm and lead her to her class. Cora occasionally looked back and she found that the mystery guy was watching her leave. Just as Cora reached the door, she caught a glimpse of the guy walking away.
Cora's friend who dragged her away was Maya Turner. She transferred from Midstorm High a year ago because of the constant bullying. Cora on the other hand, transferred because she had to move and live with her brother. Maya was a few months older than Cora. She had long brown hair which she put it in a braid. She had hazel brown eyes and tan skin. She was slightly taller than Cora. She wore a long sleeve button up shirt with the sleeves rolled up to the elbow and faded blue jeans and blue sneakers. Cora on the other hand was wearing a simple white tank top with a red and black flannel shirt over it and comfortable navy blue skinny fit jeans and black converse sneakers. Cora's hair was medium length, wavy with soft curls at the bottom and was dirty blonde.
"Cora!" Maya exclaimed.
Cora's attention was snapped back to her friend. She gave her a sheepish smile before apologizing.
"Listen Cora, you've got to stay away from Sterling. He's bad news," Maya warned her friend.
"Is he really that bad? He's kinda hot," Cora said.
"He is really that bad. Rumor has it, that he got arrested for assault and possession of drugs."
"But they're just rumors, Maya. Did anyone ever seen him do any of that?"
"Yes, they have. That's why he got caught!" Maya exclaimed.
"Ugh, fine! I'll stay clear," Cora said as she rolled her eyes.
"What did you say his name was? Sterling, is it?" Cora asked.
"Yeah... Ian Sterling. Why?"
"Well, you wanted me to stay clear of him when I only know his face. I at least need to know his name," Cora explained.
"You have a point there. Okay then. C'mon! You can sit beside me. Because you're in luck! We have all the same classes!"
"Yay, can't wait," Cora said sarcastically.
Soon the first half of the day had gone by and it was lunch. Cora grabbed her lunch and sat with Maya. As soon as she sat down, two more students joined them.
"Cora, these are my friends. Zachariah Masterson," Maya introduced as she pointed the the first guy.
"Call me Zach," he said.
Zachariah 'Zach' Masterson was a really good looking guy. He wore simple clothes, a t-shirt, a pair of jeans, sneakers and jacket. He had grey eyes and his hair was spiked up at the front.
"And this is Sasha Stryker," Maya continued.
Sasha had blue eyes and jet black hair with streaks of red in her hair. She wore a white tank top and a black leather jacket over it. She wore navy blue jeans and hung her red and black flannel hoodie around her hip. She also wore biker boots. Her make up was dark with black eyeliner and dark eye shadow. She was like a punk rocker or something.
"Sup," Sasha said.
"Hi, I'm Cora Evans," Cora introduced herself.
"I've never seen you around before. You new, Evans?" Sasha asked.
The fact that Sasha called her by her last name had proved the fact. She was a punk. Cora smiled.
"Yeah, actually I am," Cora replied.
"Well, welcome aboard, Evans," Sasha said.
"Thanks."
"So how's your day been, Cora?" Zach asked.
Before Cora could answer, Maya started talking. No wonder she always got bullied, Cora thought to herself. She wouldn't shut up! Sasha rolled her eyes as Maya talked. Cora just looked down and started picking at her food. When she looked up, she saw Zach's and Sasha's eyes on her. They smiled sympathetically. It said 'I know how you feel but just go with it'. That caused Cora to smile. At least she didn't need to go through things alone.
The first bell rang, indicating that lunch was over. Students got up and put away their trays. Cora Evans ended up alone since there were so many people. After putting her tray away, she headed to the door and she bumped into someone again. She should really watch where she was going. She looked up and found that same blue eyes staring back at her. It was Ian Sterling.
"I um.. Sorry," Cora said.
"We should probably stop meeting like this," Ian spoke finally with a light chuckle.
Cora looked at him in awe. Finally, a voice to that face. He had accent when he talked. He's either English or Australian.
"Um..." Cora trailed off, suddenly lost of words.
"I know. Finally you heard me talk and now you're figuring out what sort of accent this is. Well, to stop you from thinking too hard, I'll answer it for you," Ian said.
"I'm Ian Sterling and I'm from England. I bet deep inside you, you're doing a little victory dance because you guessed it correctly. Well done," Ian joked.
Cora giggled. She gave him a shy smile and walked away.
"Ah.. Wait! I didn't catch your name!"
"That's because I didn't give it," she said as she walked back to class before the second bell rings. Cora Evans was sitting near the window seat when she noticed that Ian Sterling was late for class. Great, he's in this class, she thought to herself. Cora noticed that he took a seat behind her but she pretended not to care. She felt him tap on her shoulder and leaned in to whisper to her.
"You know, it would be a lot easier if I knew your name," he whispered to her.
Cora felt a smile crept on her face but she didn't know why. Without turning back, she shushed him.
"Playing hard to get, are we?" Ian teased.
Just before she could respond, the teacher, Mr Fitch, called out to them.
"Mr Sterling, Ms Evans, would you care to share with the class what you two were whispering about?" Mr Fitch said.
"I'm sorry, sir but not to be rude but this guy won't shut up. And honestly, I'm trying to concentrate on my first day and all," Cora said.
"Mr Sterling, meet me after class. And welcome, Ms Evans," he said.
Ian smirked and leaned back to his seat. "Evans, huh? Say Evans... Got a first name?"
Cora rolled her eyes and tried to hide her smile as she listened to the teacher.
