It is five years later, and Ben has still been the same as the day in the prairie. Whenever you try to talk to him privately, he gets angry at you and shoos you away. After all these years, it's started to really beat you down. You feel helpless. A knot has grown in your stomach, and a cavity is in your heart.
You take your food to the kitchen table, the darkness surrounding it, which was illuminated by a single light that hung above it. The worn walls were rounded with time, as you slide your hands across one as you find a seat. Ben sat there, quietly eating his food. Master Luke has left for a few days to go on a secret mission for his sister. He trusted the two of you to stay here alone. He thought of it as some new way for the two of you to to bond or some bantha crap.
You munch on the dinner of your homemade stew, dumplings, and some blue milk. You are plopped down across from Ben. He glances up at you, but quickly becomes focused on his food again.
You sigh. Just because he's three years older than you, he thinks he's so cool. You angrily start eating with ferocity.
Ben watches you. You ignore him. He ignores you all the time, you're ignoring him now. He can deal with it.
You look up and see him staring at you, a blank look on his face. It was his thinking face.
You scoff. "What're you lookin at me like that for?"
He simply shrugs and continues to eat.
You roll your eyes. Boys are so weird. That night, you couldn't sleep. It was a long time after the suns had set, and you were restless. You shuffle down a long hall, walking aimlessly. You arrive in the sitting room. You walk over to a board game you and Master Luke play together sometimes. The two of you hasn't played in nearly a year.
You sigh and sit down in a chair in the dark, silent room. The fire had burnt out, but the hot ashes still burned with vigor. You start to doze off next to the warm fireplace and in the comfy, fluffy chair, until you hear footsteps down the hall. You stay completely still and hold your breath. You knew it was Ben, but you wanted to be alone for right now.
He walked into the room and paused. He looked at you.
"What're you doing here in the dark, y/n?"
You sigh. "I was having some alone time," you say. As if he really cared.
He grunts in acknowledgement. You roll your eyes and watch the coals burn out one by one."Y/n..."
You look up at Ben, who has his hand rested in the head of your seat.
"Yeah?" you answer, slightly reluctantly.
He casts his eyes to the ground, a look of sadness washing over him."I'm sorry I've been so weird."
You stare at him for a moment, waiting for him to continue. Apparently, that is the end of his monologue. You sigh.
"It is what it is," you reply. What else could you say?! He wasn't apologizing or anything.
He looks at you and nods. Then he quickly walks out of the room, presumably to his room.
You shake your head. He's so weird.
