It was a windy day and lace pink cherry blossom petals span slowly around Light Yagami's head as he headed down the road toward To-Oh. Not that he noticed, he was too caught up in his thoughts to even notice the simple unexpected beauty in a Japanese April. "Who is this L?" Light ponder to himself under his breath running his fingers through his hair, exposing the light honey undertones in the lower layers

'It seems that he is your nemesis oh great Kira" Ryuk scoffed, laughing at Light's delirious delusions of grandeur "and apparently 'the world's greatest detective'" Ryuk sniggering slightly at the petty troubles of his human companion.

Light sent Ryuk a stern glare, a very definite glint of jealousy in his gold rimmed eyes and even more evident in his harsh tone whisper "Who even called themselves that? Cocky bastard!" Lights knuckles turned white as he viciously grabbed the strap of his leather satchel trying to not show his fuming emotions to those surrounding him. It was then that a shrill bell sounded announcing that the first lesson of the day was scheduled to start. Light swore internally picking up the pace, he was the epitome of the perfect student after all, he couldn't be late, he had to set an example to all of his cretinous classmates. As Light set off at a gentle jog he had his first encounter of the day with one of such idiotic classmate.

"Good morning Light-chan!" a girl Light wasn't concerned about enough to remember of called as she appeared at his side, running slightly in order to keep up with his pace. Although he was not having a good morning and couldn't not have cared less about the girls he decided that keeping up his top student, friend to all façade would be crucial in hiding his true identity from the man whom L had had follow him for at least 2 weeks now.

"Good morning, how are you?" he replied breezily, hoping he hasn't left his reply too late. It was clear that the girl was too overjoyed by the fact that said smart, attractive, older boy was talking her to notice Light' hesitation.

"I am very well thank you, I have been very busy lately with my gardening club and my....."

It was then that Light started to tune the girl out, her idea of a conversation it was clear was exhausting waffle about extremely dull subjects whilst the other person just nodded along, no matter how tedious the situation was Light was glad that he did not have to make an effort to engage the girl. Her irritating gabbing was silenced abruptly when the pair walked into the lecture hall, all eyes turning to them.

"My greatest apologies Sensei" Light revered bowing at the waist as he took an empty seat in the second row making sure there was no space for the girl to sit next to him. Said girl was stood in the door to the classroom embarrassed by all the eyes looking in her direction as she stuttered an apology to the professor.

"So...." the professor continued pushing his glasses further up his snub nose his wispy hair sticking slightly to his sweaty brow, believe me this wasn't how he had hoped he'd be spending his Saturday mornings, teaching teenage imbeciles mathematics his student teacher Light Yagami had been doing since middle school.

"But I still don't understand Yagami-kun," a dark haired boy, several years younger than Light enquired, irritatingly clicking his pen as he stared blankly at the text book.

"It's very simple Haruto" Light said trying very hard not to snap at him, but it was just so frustrating he could have solved this question when he was 15!

A while later another sharp ring emitted from the large bell mounted on the bland beige wall of the auditorium and Light let out a breath he hadn't realised he was holding, picked up his satchel and walked quickly out of the room with nothing more than a small bow to the Sensei.

Light and Ryuk walked away from the campus and down towards the dark, dingy, awful smelling subway.

"Hey Light," Ryuk questioned "Where are we going?"

People swarmed into the cramped station like ants at a summer picnic, there were several reasons for this journey the first objective being that he was heading to a job interview for a permanent teaching position at Japan's second best university, sure it was no Ta-Oh but the position he was being offered came with much better working hours which allowed him to pursue his true purpose as Kira, it also allowed him to move out of his parents' house, therefore escaping the cameras and the alarming looks from his father as he tried to convince himself that his son was not in fact Kira. The second reason for his descent into the less than favourable mode of transport was as an attempt to lose the tall, slender blonde man who had been following him for the last week.

36 minutes later Light straightened his tie and ran his hand through his consistently immaculate golden brown hair before looking down at his watch 2:26pm perfect, he was exactly 4 minutes early for his appointment with Doctor Ryuzaki Saito head of the criminal law and justice department at Tokyo University. Light walked into the large Law building, signing in at the front desk and listened while an attractive blonde woman batted her eyelashes at him and pointed her dainty fingers in the direction of a corridor and instructed him to turn left at the end of it.

"Akio Kurosawa?" Ryuk questioned his large eyes squinting as his dark eyebrows came together in confusion "You're using a false name?"

Light laughed slightly as he smiled at the woman and began to walk down the corridor "of course I'm using a synonym Ryuk, do you really think I'm stupid enough to give my real name here?! Where the almighty L can hack the system and send one of his lackeys after me?" before Ryuk could reply the door opened below Lights raised fist before he could even attempt to knock. A dark haired man stood in the doorway, his pale face blank, his sunken, black ringed, charcoal eyes moved slowly down to look at his Breigtling watch which ticked loudly "Exactly on time, I appreciate your punctuality Mr...?"

"Kurosawa" Light replied running his eyes up and down the man's body, surely this could not be the man he was here to meet!? For one he was only about 22, only 4 years older than light himself, meaning that he would have had to have graduated university at 13 in order to be a doctor, which was absurd beyond all sense! Secondly the man stood in front of his was wearing a large untucked white shirt with an open collar and a loose blue tie and a pair of navy blue tracksuit trousers that rested several inches above his BARE feet! "Akio Kurosawa" Light finished trying desperately not to show how shocked he was by the man's appearance.

"Nice to meet you Akio Kurosawa," the man bleated monotonously, chewing lightly on his large thumb which rested on his bottom lip "I am Dr Ryuzaki Saito."
