Maeve shuffled along the wooden floorboards of the living area, three days is what she and her family had spent in their new home and the young girl mentally admitted to liking the new environment, though she refused to say so openly, she had found herself becoming more and more accustomed to the house.
She nodded her head ever so softly to the beat of the song that played through her earphones, she let herself drop down onto the leather couch behind her, beside her sat her father, he looked up at his only daughter through the lens of his glasses and set the hardback book he had indulged himself in on his lap. "G'morning love" he greeted her, a small smile lifted onto his lips as he spoke, but it also managed to reveal the wrinkles that surrounded his eyes.
She turned to her dad and paused her music. "Morning dad," she responded the light existence of a smile graced her lips as she looked down at the book on his lap, "Are you reading The Da Vinci Code again?".
"Yes, yes I am... I am telling you, it's a classic!" her father replied as she laughed lightly at his response. "Of course it is, dad" she said to him with a smirk on her lips.
"Any plans for today?" he asked.
"I was planning on staying in and just relaxing. I want to take this place in a little, I am not that used to it yet" she responded him without thought. She had managed to avoid leaving her new home all week and she wasn't planning against it now
"What about you, James?" her father asked, she turned to see her older brother rested against the wall, an apple in his hand as he took a massive bite into it.
"I was going to go for a walk and Maeve is coming with me" Jamie informed their dad as a short sigh escaped Maeve's lips. Whenever Jamie brought up an idea, it seemed like her parents would immediately agree with him, no matter how incredulous said idea would be.
Maeve looked back at her older brother who was dressed in chino shorts and a black plain v-neck, he had paired the outfit with beach slippers and a wooden necklace he had gotten from his last girlfriend back in London, it was obvious Jamie missed her, over the last few days, it had become more obvious, he stayed up late at night and would wake up looking tired. It was beyond obvious he'd been staying up late to talk to her and it was also obvious the breakup and the move had taken a toll on him, whether it was good or bad, Maeve couldn't seem to come up with a decision.
"Go on then. Go get ready, I am hoping to leave in ten" he informed her as she snapped out of thought track and got up, following behind him as he slowly made his way up the stairs. Jamie had always been laid back and quite relaxed, he hardly ever got frantic or upset and if he did, well, he most be doing an excellent job at hiding emotions.
Maeve let herself into her bedroom as she made a beeline straight for her closet, she quickly picked out denim shorts and a white baseball top with green sleeves, just like her brother she decided to go with blue beach slippers and accessorized with only a few bracelets running up and down her slender and long arms that were in desperate need of a tan.
A soft knock sounded on her door as she padded around in search of her earphones and phone she had carelessly discarded upon arrival in her room. She soon spotted it in a tangled mess on her bed. She knew it was Jamie, so when she saw her brother leaning against the wall, it was no surpise but what surprised her was the cigarette he asbent-mindedly twisted skillfully in his right hand.
Maeve refused to ask about it though, she knew her brother was trying to avoid relaspe, if smoking made him less stressed then she appreciated it and saw it as a positive in his life. The two siblings exchanged quick goodbye's with their parents as they paraded out the door.
