After an hour of talking, Kate had fallen asleep and the rest of us were trying to do the same thing. It just is comfy on a train. But only 30 minutes later Kate woke up fully refreshed and ready to play another softball game!
"So," I said wearily, "you guys any good at softball?"
Maria Ann, who at first came off like the rowdy type, was actually pretty shy. So her response startled me.
"Any good? ANY GOOD! Can you believe her guys? There are such things as stupid questions, and that was the best example you will ever find! But to answer your question, yes, yes we are one of the nation's best. And this year we are striving to be America's Best Highschool Team. We almost have the title too! We just have to beat the Chicago team and we will be fine."
Allison then put up a hand blocking off Maria Ann and Kate and started to whisper, "Sorry for that. I think Maria Ann is the most passionate about softball on the team."
Kate then jumped in and almost yelled, "Anndddd here comes Foxxy!"
"Indeed I am here," said a girl with bright pink hair and a delightful sense of fashion. She also had a clipboard.
"You see, Junie, Foxxy real name is Alisha Fox but it's much more fun to call her by her nickname. And believe it or not she played on our team for a year, but she didn't like it." Kate stated with seriousness, "So now she travels around with us as our so-called "game schelduler". Which, by the way, isn't even a real word. So-"
"Um hey, Chatty Katey, I can call myself whatever I want! And dear, are you a new member?" Foxxy asked, looking at me. There was a moment of silence, but then someone spoke up.
"Not exactly," Allison said. I have a good felling about her. "She is just sitting with us. Anyway, where are you going Juniper?"
I didn't know what to say. Isn't running away illegal? Well if they are going to be my friends I might as well not lie.
"Well, I'm headed to Arizona. A place far away from Phoenix though." There. That wasn't the full truth, but it was the truth.
"Why?" asked Kate. That was the one time Kate opened her mouth and only said one word. Wow.
"Well," I sighed, "I'm a runaway orphan. I thought I would go to Arizona and get a job. And on my next vacation, go back and grab my older brother and younger sister."
It was quiet for a while. Everyone thought it over.
"You're not lying, are you?" Allison almost whispered. I shook my head.
"I have an idea," Maria Ann excitedly yelled.
