"Emily." Daniel nudges my shoulder. The light stings my eyes a bit as I open them, looking at where we are. He's driving at a high speed road, eyes flickering between me and it. They are red and sleepy, making me go wide awake. I look at the time. Elven p.m.

"Shit." I stutter. "Um, okey. Pull over." He looks at me.

"I can't." I shake my head.

"I mean at the next exit, pull off at the next exit." How has he stayed awake? What was the time when we switched? The memory is fuzzy, he was so cute sleeping. What? I shake my head again. Focus.

A couple minutes later a sign tells us to get in the right lane to turn off. Daniel switches on the blinker and change lane. He get us off, and stops at this little break spot. With a yawn that he covers with his left hand he gets out, and I unbuckle myself. Passing each other on the outside our eyes meet, and I get a flashback to our meeting in the rainy alley. As I reach for the door I hear him cuss lowly. I look up, to see his blonde hair disappear into the car. Maybe he hit his head.

Getting in I fasten my seatbelt. I turn on the blinker and check the mirrors, before making a U-turn to get back up.

"We can't go much longer like this. I can't do this." He stares at the road. "I need to sleep in a bed soon." I nod, still looking at the road. I can do it, but I understand he can't. I'm a racer, but I don't know what he does.

Soon a sign shows the way to a town close by, so I turn off again. I tell Daniel to look for a motel so we can stop for a while. He soon tells me to turn in to the right, where a two story building with red railings lays, as an insult to all decent hotels everywhere. It much like the typical motel you see in movies, where the husband goes to be unfaithful.

I frown, barely touching the door as I push it up. Gross. The receptionist gives me a key, not putting down the phone. Okey, making it even more shady. I shrug, returning out to Daniel. It's my way after all. I pass him and climb the stairs.

The room isn't bad. A stained carpet, old bed, pretty much what you'd expect. I walk in, and throw myself on it, leaving Daniel to come in on his own. Surprising, really, how fast I've adopted to this. But then again, this was how I lived at first.

With a laugh I study the spots in the roof, remembering my first apartment. Yeah, I shared it with Nicole. It was disgusting. Small, dark, loud neighbors, you name it.

Then we met this guy on a club, who brought us to a private party. I didn't like it there, smoke filled rooms, shady people, but Nicole wanted to stay. I told her fine, and hung out in the kitchen, where I met Tic. He was high as fuck, but he was funny as hell too. We started talking, and he asked what I was. I thought he was too gone to be serious, but I told him I was a waitress, which he snorted at.

"Typical a new girl to be a waitress." He took another pull from a cigarette that was passed around. Okey, a joint, big deal. "Come with something original."

I told him I was a good racer, which was not true, and he insisted that we would race. Pushing myself from the counter I explained I didn't have a car. With an amused look on his face he got up his car keys.

"If you win against the opponent I pick for you, you can keep the car." I was stunned by his offer. But I wanted a car, and if I now had said something I should at least stand by it.

"Deal." I took the keys dangling from his hand.

"But if you lose, you owe me a favor." I nodded and he grinned. "Make it two."

The whole party came out to watch me race against the boy Tic picked out. The only one who was sober, and not stoned out of his mind. Of course. The course was easy enough, only around the block. I patted the gear stick, looking at the other's car. A rover. Now, I didn't have much experience at the time, but I believed that it was far too big to turn in high speed. The car I had was far better, a BMC.

A girl in neon top and shorts, ran out in font of us, and held up her hands, under loud cheers from the male audience. We started the engines, and when she dropped them we both drove off. Like I predicted he had to slow down really bad to be able to turn. I was back with five seconds to go. Tic smiled at me, and wasn't at all mad, as I had expected.

"Well done, Hun. You can make a living of that."

A small slam gets me out of my cute little trance state of remembering. Daniel has slammed the door shut, and walks to the bathroom. Okey... I get up and walk over to the window. All I can see is the parking lot, and the road. What a view!

"I wish we could've stayed in Vegas." I mumble to myself before pulling the curtains back to cover it.

I sit down on the floor and open my bag. Now I wish we had something more then just clothes, like food, or, even better, a gun. I hear Daniel come out of the bathroom, and I close my bag again.

"How far behind do you think they are?" I ask, sitting down on the bed to unlace my shoes. Daniel shrugs, hands shoved deep in his pockets.

"Probably right behind."

I nod thoughtfully, tucking the laces in the shoe in case we need to leave soon.

We decide to leave the room when it the sun had started to set. The sky holds a gorgeous coral when we, with many looks over our shoulder, go out. Passing his car Daniel stops me. I look confused on him, but he unlocks the car and opens the trunk.

He removes a dirty blanket, to reveal a gun.

Shocked I take a step backwards and he gives me an look that I think is a mixture between apologizing and hurt.

"You have a gun?" I ask the obvious. No, it's his cousin's, dumbass. "Why did you not tell me?"

He shrugs, putting it into the front of his pants, pulling the shirt over it. Oh. It's already loaded. Well, I've already decided to trust him.

"Because you'd freak, like you did now."

"Well, I'm mostly annoyed by the fact that you let it sit in your car when it would have been better to carry it with you." I point out, keeping my voice low as we cross the parking lot. "Why do you have it?"

He shrugs again, but I see a glimpse of uncertainty in his eyes. Okey.
