Richard's POV

"Hey, Bruce. I was wondering if I could go to this party on Saturday with Artemis?" I ask, watching as my adopted father turns his attention away from the newspaper.

"Will there be adult supervision?" He asks.

"Of course."

"Alcohol?"

"I'll stay away from it"

"Girls?"

"Don't swing that, Bruce. Remember?"

"Boys?"

"...."

"...."

"I'll be careful."

"I expect you to call me every hour and be home by 10-"

"11:00"

"...."

"I think I deserve some freedom."

"Fine. 11:00. 11:15 the latest."

"Thank you!" Jumping up from my seat, I give him a big hug.

I feel him laugh at my antics before hugging me back. "Just be safe. I'll have Alfred drop you and Artemis off."

I pull away and go back to my seat just as Alfred serves us his Fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp, a side salad, and biscuits. "I would be delighted to drive you and lady Artemis to your festivities, Young Master. "

"Thank you, Alfred." I respond, giving him a smile. Turning to Bruce, I give him a curious look. "Not that I don't mind Alfred taking us, but you're usually so strict about me going to parties. What's with the change?"

The last time I had gone to a party - with parental supervision - Bruce had made sure that he personally took me to their house. He then called every half hour, a big step up from when it was fifteen minutes. When I called to tell him I was ready to go, he had showed up in the car five minutes later.....Our house was a twenty minute drive away.

I then had to interrogate him about where he was that whole time. It wasn't until I threatened to tell Clark -his boyfriend- about some of Bruce's "Hobbies" in the bedroom that he revealed what he did. My adopted father had apparently drove around the block twice before settling to stay in his car just down the street.

"Well, I have to meet with some associates in London about establishing a new corporate building there. I leave in three days and I'm afraid that I won't be back until Tuesday." Bruce says.

"Hmm." I reply, taking a bite of my biscuit. "Alfred?"

"Yes, Young Master?" He asks.

"Will Clark be accompanying Bruce on this meeting?" I ask, enjoying the way Bruce starts to choke on his food while blushing.

As if sensing my amusement, Alfred chuckles. "I do believe I overheard Master Bruce discussing with Master Clark on picking out hotels."

We spend the rest of dinner laughing about our discovery. Finishing up dinner, Alfred takes our plates and cleans up, allowing Bruce and I to head to the living room.

"Bruce," I start, staring at the TV show from my relaxed position on the couch, "is your relationship with Clark serious?"

I don't bother looking at him, knowing that he's looking at me with a contemplative look on his face once more. "I...I hope so. I care for him and I couldn't imagine myself with anyone else."

Nodding at his choice of words, I move so I'm laying on my back with my feet propped up on his lap. "Good, cause if you two break up I'm going to whoop both your ass's for making such an idiotic mistake."

We continue to sit in silence and it's not long before I feel my eyes start to become heavy. Pretty soon, my eyes are closed as I fall into a blissful sleep.

Bruce's POV

I glance at my watch to check the time, sighing to myself when I see that it's a quarter to twelve. "Dick, it's time for bed." I wait for a response as I turn the TV off. "Dick?" Turning to him, I can't help the smile settling on my face.

Still laying on his back, Richard has one arm over his forehead with the other on his stomach. Mouth open with drool sliding down the corner, it's clear he's been knocked out for a while. Biting my lip to stop my laughter, I carefully reach into my pocket and grab my phone. After snapping a few pictures I slide it back into my pocket just as Alfred quietly walks over.

"Master Bruce," he whispers, "Young Master Richard's night clothes are placed on the bed, do you need assistance?"

Waving him off, I give him a smile. "No thank you, Alfred. You can retire for the night, I'll take it from here."

"As you wish, Master Bruce. Goodnight." He bows before leaving for his quarters.

"Goodnight, Alfred." I whisper.

Taking a minute to stretch out the knots in my back, I gently lift Richard into my arms. I freeze when he mumbles quietly in his sleep, only to watch in relief when he relaxes in my hold.

Walking up the stairs and to his bedroom, I change him into his nightwear. After tucking him into the bed, I can't help but thread my finger through his hair.

Smiling at him, I lean down and kiss his forehead gently. "Goodnight, son."

"Mmnn...." Richard mumbles, stirring a bit before settling in. "Night, dad."

Trying hard to not cry at the title, I smile as I make my way out of the room.

'If I had to, though, I would choose you over him.'
