Blaise was tired. And annoyed. He was supposed to be having fun on this god damn holiday trip to Greece. He was supposed to be lying out on the beach and relaxing, but instead, he was trailing behind Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger. He'd been wrangled by Hermione, of all people, into coming along onto the little walk into the small rural town nearby.
He didn't know why he had accepted, or even why Draco had accepted, but there seemed to be no fighting Hermione. She had a way of putting a bit of fear in him, maybe it was because she was so goddamn overwhelming, and he was not at all happy with being the tag along.
Towns were great and all, but he wasn't interested in small quant shops or authentic bakeries. He wanted to enjoy the sun, half-naked, and around others also half-naked. At least then he'd be enjoying the view.
Draco and Hermione were flirting and whispering to each other as they walked ahead of him, and more than once Blaise found himself mimicking Draco's stupid chuckle or words. It was childish, but really it was unfair of Hermione to cart him along when he wasn't even included in the conversation.
The whole holiday had been as such. Hermione causing some kind of lovesick trance on Draco, no doubt due to her Muggle shorts and tank tops. It might've also been because she was also very witty, kind, and beautiful, but Blaise wasn't ready to admit that yet, preferring to have something to blame.
He wondered for a moment if either of his companions would care if he left, but as he saw Hermione turn around to motion him forward, he knew he'd missed his chance.
"Blaise, do you want anything from the bakery," she asked, smiling brightly at him, thereby increasing his annoyance. How could she be so jolly in the face of a day missed basking in the sun? "They'll surely have coffee and pastries."
"I'm at your disposal," was his only reply.
Hermione smiled broader, and a glint shined in her eyes. Those were clearly the wrong words.
"Baked goods it is then," she replied, and hooked her free arm with his. They looked like a couple of buffoons, walking into a nearly empty bakery, arms linked. Blaise tried his best to glare a large hole into Draco's head, and by the redness on his face, he knew Draco felt just as ridiculous. Maybe this was payback for their pasts, and if so, Blaise couldn't think of anything worse than getting embarrassed on holiday and being a third wheel.
"Do you think we should get some pastries for later? I think having a picnic would be lovely before we head to the beach later," she started to say, looking at both Draco and Blaise for confirmation.
Draco only nodded, silently passing her a bag of Greek coins from his pocket to pay for whatever. Blaise took his chance and grabbed his arm and hauled him over to a corner where several tables sat.
"What are you doing?" Blaise nearly hissed. He watched as Draco went from confused to resignation.
"I'm making my girlfriend happy," he replied, shrugging his shoulders.
This, thought Blaise, is why I don't get attached.
"Why are you dragging me into it? I could've been at the beach, Draco. The Beach! But, instead, I'm frolicking through a village with you lot."
"I do recall you agreeing to come along, I didn't drag you into anything."
"I'm too annoyed to answer that properly, to be quite frank," Blaise replied, scowling as his friend just shrugged again.
"What do you want me to do?" Draco asked.
"I don't know! Help me think of an excuse, I can't keep following while you two kiss and coddle. It's disgusting, I'm your best friend mate. And I'm not at all into voyeurism," Blaise replied, mock vomiting to show his real disdain.
"You're a twenty-one-year-old wizard, Zabini," Draco reminded him, rolling his eyes. "I'm sure you can just tell her you'd rather be at the beach then being a third wheel with us."
"You don't understand; I can't take a guilty Hermione Granger. She's like a fucking stepped on puppy when she feels guilty and I hate it," Blaise replied, looking back at Hermione who was chatting with the baker about God knows what.
"Yes, but I'm dating her, not you. You can tell her and I'll just comfort her when you're gone." Draco stated this as if it were obvious, causing Blaise to glare it him again.
"You brought me to terrorize me, I swear to Merlin," Blaise stated, as if having an epiphany. "You're both poking your fun at gullible yet annoyed Blaise Zabini until he bursts. And then you're there to pick up the pieces."
"What the fuck are you talking about?"
"This is an elaborate plan for you to get laid, isn't it?"
"Blaise. I brought her on holiday to relax and of course have sex. Why else would you bring your girlfriend on holiday?"
They stared at each other, Draco looking highly amused while Blaise was left grumbling to himself.
"Fine! I'm leaving. I won't be the third wheel in this situation any longer," Blaise grumbled, and made his hasty escape, not even glancing at Hermione so she'd not produce those evil doe eyes.
"Did he finally leave?" Hermione asked, chuckling as she brought over a box of custard filled pastries.
"Yeah, I think he was driven near insanity."
"You said intimacy and attachment made him squeamish."
"It does. He was rightly disgusted."
"I'd have thought he'd make a run for it when we first started kissing and giggling. I was sure we'd lost him, but he is too loyal a friend," Hermione responded, sitting down at the small table right outside the shop.
"Why'd you ask him to come anyways?"
"I was being nice! I thought you said he was going to the beach, so I didn't think he was going to accept!"
"Well, now we know not to ask Blaise when you want alone time."
"Agreed."
