Ray had decided that he hated this school and wanted to leave, the humiliation he just faced for no reason was horrible. Yet he had to face the day ahead of him.
"Welcome class, I hope you had a nice summer break. My name is Miss Laetus and I shall be teaching you this term."  Miss Laetus spoke with a cheery high pitched tone.
"Bon Matin Miss Laetus" everyone in the class spoke except from Ray.
"I believe we have a new student in the school today." Miss Laetus said whilst reading her register.
"Raymond Bowfier?" Again speaking with a chirpy tone.
"Yes miss." Ray replied in a gloomy tone but tried to remain polite.
"Ah. Welcome to our school, I do hope you enjoy it here. From the looks of your file, you are quite the clever chap. I've placed you in the upper set for core subjects, that means when you have English, Maths and Science  you will be in Mr. Crumfitch's room. He teaches the year above."
"Thank you miss." Ray replied
The rest of the class glared him.
"Let's get started, everybody take out your French textbooks." Miss Laetus instructed the class, and in-sync they took out their textbooks.
Ray paused he wasn't quite what he was supposed to do.
"Raymond share with Lucy." Miss Laetus said as she was writing the title on the board
He looked around for a second.
"Hi" a voice piped up next to him.

"Um Hi?" Ray responded
"I'm Lucy." The girl responded
"Oh, so am I supposed to share with you?" Ray was still confused and hadn't a clue what was going on.
"Yes, here's my textbook. I'm assuming you took French before coming here but if you need any help just ask me." Lucy smiled and passed the book across the table.
"Why is everyone so silent?" Ray asked, he wasn't so used to such a quite classroom environment.
"I don't know, I guess it's just routine we all have. We don't speak unless spoken to. I don't personally get it, I only moved here last year." Lucy responded in hushed tone.
"My old school was never this quiet, it may have been loud but I learnt how to work with the noise. This place is just a bit too quiet." Ray said loud enough for Miss Laetus to hear
"Raymond, we don't talk during lessons. Do we class?" Miss Laetus asked the rest of the class.
"No Miss Laetus" the class replied in unison.
Ray say silently for a minute.
"Pssst." Lucy whispered "I like green."
"What?" Ray whispered, not quite sure what Lucy was talking about.
"Green is my favourite colour, not pink. But I say it's pink around my friends as they like pink." Lucy replied
"Oh." Ray realised that she was talking about the playground.
"I didn't laugh at you, by the way." Lucy said
"Thanks"
