“W-what are you-”, he brushed his fingers against my cheek.
“I've missed you, Ella.” He took a step closer to me, cupping my cheek in his hand. My body instinctively took a step closer to him as well, my hand resting on his chest.
“I got us our food, Ella” I jump back, startled by Anne’s sudden appearance.
“Oh, who is this?”, she asks.
“Oh...Umm....this is my-” What do I say? I'm not even sure how to introduce him.
“Hi, I'm Zayn”, he gave her a warm smile.
“Nice to meet you Zayn”, Anne’s smile is polite despite Zayn’s appearance. He screams trouble, covered in tattoos, piercings, and a cigarette behind his ear. You would have to be blind to think Zayn wasn't trouble.
“Ella, sweetheart, I'll be at a table. Don't be long, you don't want your food to get cold, and we still have some shopping to do!”, She smiled at Zayn again before leaving us alone.
“So, you're in a new foster home?” Zayn arched his brow.
“Yeah, I just got here yesterday. The family is okay.”
He scoffs, “Don't get attached, you know those people don't care. They are in it for the money.”
I look away from him. I want to tell him this family is different, that Anne really cares about me, and that this is the best home I've ever been in. But I know it is pointless, Zayn wouldn't like me defending them, he knew the system just as well, if not better, than I did.
“You didn't answer my question. What are you doing here?”
“You're not happy to see me?” He chuckles.
“You're avoiding it again.” I smirk.
He playfully rolls his eyes, “I got out of juvie a week ago.”
“How did you know I was here?”
“I didn't. When I got out I went to go look for Louis, we decided on getting a flat away from Honey Brook, trying to get away from that drama.”
“Oh. Makes sense I guess.” He took another step towards me, and put a piece of my hair behind my ear.
“I should probably go. Anne is waiting.”
“Wait before you go”, he took a pen out of his back pocket and scribbled something down on a napkin, “This is my address and phone number. Come around soon, El. I really have missed you.”
I grab the napkin from him and smile. I stood on my tiptoes to close the space between us to give him a kiss on the cheek, “Me too.”
He wraps his arms around me, giving me a tight hug.
“I'll see you soon.” I smile before walking off towards Anne.
When I reach Anne, she is almost done eating her food. I took the empty seat across from her, and began eating my food.
“Is that your friend?”, she casually asks.
“Yeah, I met him at my last foster house.” I shove another forkful of food into my mouth after answering her question.
“He seems nice. Is he your boyfriend? I mean you too seem to know each other very well.”
I dropped my fork back into my tray of food, “Um....no he isn't my boyfriend....anymore.”
I answer honestly, I'm not sure why, but I guess there is no point in having secrets with Anne.
She nods her head, not wanting to push the topic further.
“You know I was thinking we should get you a cellphone, and added onto our family plan.”
“Are you sure? I mean I don't want to be a burden, and who knows how long I'll be here anyway.”
Anne reaches across the table to grab my free hand, “Ella. I am going to tell you this one time, so listen closely. You are here permanently, we are not sending you back. You are a part of this family right now and always will be.” Her voice is kind yet stern.
I awkwardly look away from her and nod my head.
“Now finish eating, so we can continue shopping.” She smiles.
Once I am done eating we head back off towards the busy shops.
