Friend Or Foe?

I went to the hospital in the house to visit the guy who had stumbled upon our territory. I sat down on a chair beside his bed, and as I sat he awoke and turned towards me.

"Hello. " He said as he smiled, a smile that warmed my heart.

" Are you OK? "

" Yeah, I am, thanks for asking. I think you're the only one who's asked that, others just keep on coming and going and giving me random medicine and needles. It's nice to be treated like a human. " I laughed.

" Well I'm glad that you're OK. " As I got up to leave he quickly grabbed my hand.

" Wait, could you keep me company? It's kind of lonely here. " He looked at me with deep brown eyes. Brown, just the way I liked it.

" People haven't been telling me much but news is that you were missing for two days. " I sighed. Some wolves just love to gossip, and sometimes a little too loud. If this guy who was practically in coma could hear, I wonder who couldn't. Either way I still found it hard to believe that I had been gone for two days even though it felt like a couple of minutes.

" I just needed some time away from home. " He looked away with guilty eyes.

" What's wrong? " I asked wondering what I had said wrong to go from cheerful to sad so quick. 0 -  100 real quick.

" You left with my arrival. " He said as he removed his hand from my arm.

" You had nothing to do with me leaving. " We stared into each others eyes for a few seconds that felt like an eternity. Then my brain started running. Did he know something that I didn't? Why was he so injured when I arrived anyway? Why would I leave when he arrived? Did he have a mission he was sent to complete? I was just about to ask when the doctor walked in.

" Well Mr. Channing it seems that you're fine and can return home." His eyes saddened at the mention of those words.

" I'll be taking my leave, Miss Daciana, Mr Channing , good day to you both. " The doctor said as he took his leave.

" Why what's the matter? Aren't you happy that you get to return home? " He sat up and walked towards the window as he looked at what was beyond.

" My home, my pack, my family... It's all gone. There was a attack by the dark magic pack and then they set fire to our house. I rushed around looking for my family, then someone pushed me and I fell down a whole which led me to the outside of my house. I ran... I ran without looking back. I bumped into members of their pack and they brutally beat me up, I managed to escape, but escape what? Danger? I left my family and everything and everyone I knew. All because I was afraid. I should of stayed and fought but I ran. I just ran. "

There was silence. I don't know how, but I found myself standing behind him as I wrapped my arms around him and rested my head on his back. I don't know if it was helping him, but I felt a strange sensation of safety around him.

" YOU DID WHAT? "

" I told him he could join our pack. " I stayed cool, calm and collected as I didn't want to loose control of myself like our last encounter. My father, who he could not see, was also standing right behind him and I was showing him that I was truly the daughter of a great alpha.

" You know nothing about him, you just let a stranger into our pack, into our lives. Do you know the damage he could do? " He paced around as if he really had a say in the decision I made. I was a person who showed a lot of respect, but with him, this so called 'beta', I couldn't even find it in myself to respect him, it didn't feel right. And besides, father said to go with my gut.

" Look Michael, I know that you are the beta and all but you need to calm down. And remember, my father didn't know you when you first joined, in fact you were a rogue who you know are not very trusted, yet my father welcomed you with open arms. I may not have said it, but even as a little girl I had second thoughts about you, so give Aidan a chance the way my father gave you a chance. " His face began to boil, as the master of fire his temper was not the calmest.

" Stop acting as if you have some kind of position, do you understand, I am in charge, I say what happens, I say who comes and who goes. DO YOU UNDERSTAND! "

" Why are you acting like this? Is it because you're afraid that he might be my mate? And that he will end up having the position you wanted? Is it cause you want to be alpha? Is it cause you want control BUT DON'T HAVE IT?! "

" Delaney... Do not test his patience. " My father warned but I was too angry to listen.

" YOU WANT EVERYTHING MY FATHER HAD! YOU WANT TO BE JUST LIKE HIM! YOU WANT HIS MATE! YOU WANT TO BE A GREAT ALPHA JUST LIKE MY FATHER! YOU WANT TO BE ADORED JUST LIKE MY FATHER! BUT YOU'RE NOTHING! YOU'RE NOT EVEN HALF THE MAN MY FATHER WAS! " He raised and slapped me straight across the face but my face was hot, hot with rage and gave him a burn in return.

" GET OUT! " I walked toward the door then paused.

" You slapped me cause you know it's true. Learn how to handle truth Michael. " With that I left and slammed the door. All I could hear from the office was a huge amount of swear words and insults as I walked into my room.

I sat down at my mirror as a brushed my hair as a way to let out my frustration. In the reflection I could see my father sitting on my bed looking at me with disappointment but not saying a word.

"Delaney... " I turned to look at him.

" Oh sweetheart I love you but you don't listen. You're so hot headed. " I turned back around and continued to brush my hair.

" Well what else was I supposed to do? Let him tell me what to do? Obey his command? "

" He's the beta. "

" But you're the alpha. " There was a silence.

" You may be dead, but you're alive in everyone's heart and mind. And besides you're my dad and you're still here so why should I listen to him. "

" My little hot-headed daughter what will I do with you? "

" You'll just let me be me. "
