Chapter 10- Melissa
I tried to fiddle with the lock to open my drawer, but realized it was no use. I don't remember placing a lock on the drawer. Maybe mom might've...since what was in that drawer was all the letters and papers grandma had given me. Mom had no right to lock them up, even if she thought it was for my own good.
I felt a pile of anger grow in me. I felt mad. Really mad. This time when I reached for the lock my hand didn’t simply tug on it, this time my hand tugged and pulled in all directions as hard as it could.
If I couldn’t open it, then mom was going to, whether she wanted to or not.

“Where exactly did you put the key?”
“What key?” mom said innocently
“My drawer key. Mom you know exactly what I’m talking about.” I stated. Or I tried. I was really nervous at the moment. I was scared mom would slap me across the face any moment—even though she never did stuff like that, ever since our last fight I can’t help to think what she’ll do.
“Oh.” She whispered nodding her head slowly. After that she said nothing.
“Mom. Give me the key. I want it right now.”
“Young lady, you can’t order me around. In fact, I’m your mother, and you shouldn’t be telling me what to do.” She said. Even though her voice wasn’t yelling, every part of my body shook—most of all my hand. So I placed my hand on my hip and continued on.
“Please mom. I really need that key.” I was whining now.
“No. Now go up to your room now.”
“Fine! But you can’t hold anything back from me. Maybe everything else, but when it comes to grandma, you can’t take away anything.”
She gave out a loud puff and turned back to the TV. I sighed. How would I open the stupid lock? I ran up to the room and took a closer look at the lock. I headed over to my desk and looked for something to pop the lock open.
I picked up a scissor and played around with it. The lock wouldn’t budge!
Suddenly my curtains flew to the sides and the wind howled in my room.
“Stay away.’’ it told me. My eyes bulged out as I noticed the most frightening thing coming toward me---A flock of birds. Before I could comprehend to even scream, I realized that the wind was still talking to me. “Stay away. Stay…”
My knees buckled and I fell to the ground as the first bird flew into my room at full speed. I held my head between my knees and screamed—soon enough my room was full of birds.
A couple of birds had come to my feet and started pecking, and I screamed in pain. How long would this last? I hadn’t realized that I was moving backward until there was nowhere else to go, I was up against the wall and this time, there were more than a couple of birds.
This was a horrible dream—a nightmare. This was it I thought, before I let out the loudest pitched scream with all the life left in me…

I woke up the next morning in bed—tucked in and warm. Good. It had all been a terrible dream I told myself as I remembered the birds. But when I got out of bed, and began walking, a horrible pain shot through my feet. I yelped.
