"Don't worry darling , everything will be okay. You will be fine," mum tried reassuring me.
She gently kissed the top of my forehead. At that moment , tears started to form in the corner of my eyes. I don't want to leave my mum. I'm not ready for adulthood.
"Goodbye mum , I love you," I said.
"Goodbye sweetie. I will miss you. Take care !"
I took a deep breath , and walked away. As I turned around to wave one last time , I noticed that my mum was sobbing. That broke my heart.-------------------------------------------------------
I walked straight ahead to the main office , where the secretary, "Ms. Prattchet" ( as said on the name tag ), was chatting with some students.
"Excuse me , may I have my dorm key and my schedule ?" I asked.
"Sure sweetie, what's your name ?"the secretary questioned me.
"My name is Amber Colman. I'm majoring in art," I replied.
"C- Colman ?" she blurted out rather impolitely.
"Yes. Is anything wrong ?" I asked, confused.
The secretary's eyes widened and I could sense her pity. She knows. She knows about him.
"No, not at all,"Ms. Prattchet said nervously.
She grabbed a key, put it on the desk and fiddled through her files. A few seconds later, she handed me my timetable.
"Thank you," I mumbled.
I grabbed my stuff and rushed through the hallway. I didn't know where I was heading to. I just needed to get away. I couldn't handle the drama. Not now. Not in a new life. Drama is always circling me, wherever I go. And I thought that I could escape. I thought that no one knew here. Mum must have warned them. Now I have to be that girl again. The one that everyone pities. The one that needs to be treated carefully.
A single tear slid down my cheek. I clenched my fists and took a deep breath. Looking around me, I noticed that someone was staring at me. Of course someone was staring ! It was my first day at college and I was crying. He must think I'm a baby. We made eye contact and I couldn't help but notice his eyes. His eyes were the prettiest color I've ever seen. A vibrant electric blue. He grinned and came over.
"Are you okay ? Has it been a tough day ?"he asked.
"I guess," I replied shyly.
"Do you know your way around this place ?"he wondered.
"Not really. It's all new for me." I said.
"Oh. No wonder you are in the boy's section of the building,"he said , exploding with laughter.
I just stood there, blushing bright red. How did I manage to embarrass myself already ?
His laugh was contagious and I started giggling. How dumb was I ?
"Why didn't you tell me sooner ?!" I exclaimed, still laughing.
"Come on. Follow me. I will show you where your dorm is" he said.
We walked for about 5 minutes, having a pleasant conversation. He dropped me off at my door.
"It was nice meeting you," he said.
"Likewise,"
"We didn't introduce ourselves properly. What's your name ?"he asked.
"Amber,"
"Amber. That's a really pretty name." He commented.
Once again, I blushed , but this time , it felt good.
"Thanks. And what's your name ?"
"My name is Derek," he replied.
"Then I guess I will see you around Derek ,"I said.
Just like that, he walked away, leaving me overwhelmed. So many things were crossing my mind. Too much to think about.-------------------------------------------------------
As I entered the room , I noticed that my roommate was sitting on the floor, sobbing and yelling at the phone. Great ! More drama.
My roommate has bright blond hair, reaching her waist. Her mascara was running and the rest of her makeup was smuged. She has almond eyes, and colored cheeks. She was about 1m67 a few centimetres taller than me. She is really skinny, she has no curves at all. But I have to admit : she is absolutely gorgeous.Author's note
