*Brie's POV*
Every part of fear in ny body sleathily melted away when Ashton agreed to help to police. New York was going to be safe again, thanks to Ashton. The officer left after more thanks and Harry finished his meal, allowing us to leave. We took our time driving now, we didnt have to run. We drove in silence, Ashton sometimes asking me a question, his left hand steering and his right holding mine. Harry had fallen asleep in the back, and was so quiet i had to check to make sure he was still there.
"Love, do you want to sto-" Ashton was silenced by his ringinh iPhone, signaling a new call. He pressed speaker and spoke carefully.
"Luke?"
"Hey, Ash. We came over for practice but you weren't there..."
"Oh, shit. I forgot. Im going to be out of town for a while. Possibly a month. Might want to find a nrw drummer for the while."
A month? Jesus, thats a long fucking time. Luke started talking about how hard finding a replacement would be and Ashton sighed, pulling out his pack of ciggarettes and lighting one between his lips.
"Can I have one?" I asked lightly.
Ashton gave me a nervous look and laughed shortly. "Babe, what?"
"I want a smoke." I snapped, and Ashton rolled his eyes, put a ciggarette between my lips and lite it. I coughed and Ashton smiled.
"You'll get it." He said and Luke stopped talking.
"Ashton?" Luke asked. "Are you with somebody?"
My breathe cut and I choked on the smoke in my lungs. Ashton rubbed my cheek with the hand not driving, and whispered "so innocent" with his small snicker.
"Ash?" Luke snapped.
"Uh, yeah." Ashton laughed nervously. "I'm with Brie."
"Brie West?" Luke sounded amazed. "That high school girl? With the brown hair? That innocent chick? The one who you've marveled over for mon-"
Ashton stopped him sharply. I crossed my arms over my chest and smiled. "Yes, that Brie. Say hi, love."
"Um, hi." I said awkwardly and Luke laughed loudly, making Harry stir in his sleep position. "Hey."
"Luke, I have to go." Ashton said impatiantly. Luke started to say goodbye but Ash had already hung up.
I twirled my ciggarette between my fingers, trying not to choke on the smoke still in my lungs.
"As I was saying." Ashton said. "Do you want to stop at another motel or drive a couple more hours to stay and a friends house? One of my mom's old family friends already gave us permission to stay at her place."
"Can we stay at her house?" I asked quietly, i was not showering in another motel.
"Of course. I'll call her and tell her we'll be there in about two hours." He stated, kissing my cheek and quickly checking to make sure Harry was ok. "And once we get there, when we leave again, Harry will stay with her- her name is Samantha. He'll be safe with her."
I nodded and sunk down to my chest.
"Talk a nap, my love. We'll be there soon."
I soon fell asleep, my knees to my chest, and the last thing I heard was Ashton singing Ordinary People to himself, his sweet voice filling my ears.
I woke up later in a soft bed with white sheets. Ashton snored next to me, his arm slung over my waist and his fingers flitching in his sleep. I snuggled into his chest and kissed his bicep. The clock on the bedside table said eight am; we must have arrived at Samantha's house late last night. I flipped on my side to see Ashton and watched him sleep. His mouth hung open slightly, and his loud snores nearly broke windows. Ashton's biceps flexed when he moved and i giggled when he mumbled a few words in his sleep. I couldnt make out what he said but he sure as hell was cute. I pushed away from him and stood up. Glancing around the room, I saw a pair of black leggings and a plain green shirt on the dresser. A small piece of paper was afixed to the pile of clothes.
'Brie, Ashton said we might be the same size. Hope these fit. Please feel free to take a shower and eat anything. I'm at work until six tonight.-Sam'
I smiled, I already liked this Sam lady. I grabbed the pile of clothes and trudged off to the bathroom across the hall. After a quick shower, I changed into Sam's hand me downs and french braided my hair. Once I was all situated and clean, I walked back into the bedroom. When I was there, I found Ashton sitting up, shrugging into his classic american flag shirt. I loved him in that. He turned around when I sat behind him, wrapping my arms around his neck.
"Morning." I breathed into his ear.
"Do you want breakfast?" He asked, pecking my cheek.
"Please." I answered and we walked hand in hand to the kitchen. We found Harry eating lucky charms and he beamed at us.
"Ash, Brie! Look, we're on tv!" Both Ashton and my head snapped to the telly in the corner. Unsurprisinly, our faces were plastered there. Ashton clapped his hand down on the power button and the tv shut off. His huge hands hung loose at his side, and he moaned. "I need more ciggarettes."
"Ash.." I mumbled, not sure what to do.
"I wont be gone long, love. A half hour tops." He shut the door quietly behind him and i stood there awkwardly, Harry still shoving his face with cereal.
"I guess its just us, than."
