Colby's POV:
"Colby Thomas!" My mother yelled. "It's time for your shift in the surf shop wake up!" I breathed in deeply and smiled when I smelled the familiar salt air. I got dressed slowly, not looking outside once. I loved my view, and I wanted it to be saved for last every morning. Even now as I looked out at the cerulean water, it took my breath away.I stomped down the stairs much to my little brother's dismay. "How come Colby gets to play hooky?" He whined. "Abel, he's not playing hooky. He's going to work. It's the first busy day of the season after Memorial Day." My mother said as she flipped the pancakes she was making. "You know typical parents have to force their kids to go to school on the last day." I said, snatching one off of her stack. "I'm anything but typical." She said as she placed another onto the already high stack.

"You're 5 minutes late." My friend, Ryan, told me as I walked into the shop. "My friend, I am never late. I'm fashionably on time." I said as I walked to clock in. Ryan had sandy blonde hair, sky blue eyes, and a tan that made every girl melt when they came into the shop. "You still look as dorkish as you did yesterday Colb." He told me."That's not what Macy said last night when she was all over me." I said giving him a wide grin. "You and Hamilton actually did it?"
Macy Hamilton had been my dream girl ever since she split her lunch with me in the 6th grade. "Well, no but--"
"Then don't brag about it you weirdo!" Ryan said, doubling over in laughter.
The rest of the day went by slow; my mother was wrong about today being the "busiest day since Memorial Day." But then again, she usually was. "What're you doing tonight?" Ryan asked me as we walked down the boardwalk. "I'm probably going to Cassidy's end of the year party." I said. He nodded and smiled at Cassidy's name. "You don't still like her do you?" I asked. Ryan rubbed his neck, and I swear I saw him blush.
"You do don't you!" I said laughing. "Dang whatever just yell it out loud to everyone!" He snapped. "RYAN EVANS HAS A CRUSH ON CASS--!" I hollered before Ryan clamped his hand over my mouth. He smacked the back of my head, and we continue walking to Cassidy's.

"We missed you at school today." Macy slurred. She had been drinking since I got here, and this looked to be about her third cup. "Oh yeah?" I said smirking at her. "Yeah!" She said as she clutched onto my arm to keep herself from falling over. "Okay Mace; I'm cutting you off." I told her as I walked her over to the couch. Macy looked to be pouting as I walked off."Don't let Macy have any more alcohol tonight." I told a junior who was acting as the bartender. He nodded at me, clearly not breaking his sync from the bass.
"Cooooolllbyyyyyy!"I heard Cassidy call out. I turned around to see her draped all over Ryan. "Cassssiiiidy!" I called back. She smiled and beckoned me to go to her, and Ryan never took his eyes off of her. "What Cass?" I asked her. She was as intoxicated as Macy or probably more; I couldn't tell. "We graduate in this many days." She said as she attempted to hold up the number three. "Yeah we do don't we." I said to her.
"How much has she had?" I asked Ryan quietly. "Four since we got here but the guys said she smoked before we got here too." He said lowly. I shook my head at the sight of her currently passed out in his arms. "Have fun baby sitting." I said walking.
Gasoline by Halsey started playing then, and all the hipsters and wanna-be hipsters came out. Most of the couples looked too busy groping the other to actually dance, but some of them sloppily danced as the song faded out. The DJ replaced the Halsey song with an MGK song, and then everyone went crazy.
