RECAP FROM LAST CHAPTER:

"Is this his?" Alexei calmly asked. It freaked me out how composed he was when he looked like he was ready to kill someone.

Wincing, I told the truth, "Yes."

It was not long before the sweatshirt was ripped in half by Alexei and he was panting heavily from all of the anger built up inside of him.

"I can explain, Alexei," I stated firmly as he closed his eyes at the sound of my voice.

"I'm not sure I want to hear what you have to say, Emilia," He said as he opened his eyes and stared right into mine, letting all of his hurt be shown through them.

It broke my heart to see him like this. It hurt more though to watch him leave my room without even letting me explain myself. It hurt most that I let him go like that.

CHAPTER 5:

'I'm such an idiot,' I internally yelled at myself as I cried again. I have always been sensitive, but today marks one of the most emotional days of my life. It sits right next to the day when my grandmother, Evelyn, died.

"I miss her so much," I whispered to myself through my fit of tears.

She died before I hit the ripe age of eight and I still remember so much about her. She always smelled like lavender and mahogany mixed together. It was not the most pleasant smell, but I had become used to the distinct smell of my grandmother quickly. I looked forward to smelling her scent when she held me tight. She gave the best hugs too.

'I could really go for a hug from her right now,' I thought to myself as I sighed loudly. Letting out the sadness, it quickly transformed into madness. I was no longer upset that my mate thinks I'm the shittiest mate on the planet. News flash, he's currently tied with me for that title. The repressed feelings from my childhood have replaced every ounce of melancholy I had. I was now angry that my grandmother left me to deal with this world alone.

"Evelyn, if you are listening up there, I could really use you right now," I shouted towards the ceiling of my bedroom. Praying that my grandmother was watching over me, I continued yelling, "Why did you leave me here to deal with all of this bullshit? I never asked for any of this, you know! Why me? Why?"

Falling onto my floor with tears of anger escaping my eyes, I curled into a ball and hugged my legs to my chest. "Everything hurts," I whispered softly, letting my eyes close and pushing my head towards my legs.

My mind was going rapid with all of my negative thoughts when suddenly, my bedroom door launched open. Looking up with my head, I saw Alexei standing there. He looked very confused and concerned.

'Shocker. He might actually care,' I thought as I watched his eyebrows furrow up. Taking a step into my room, he was by my side before I could even comprehend what was going on.

"Are you okay?" He asked gently.

"Do I look like I am okay?" I asked back seriously, gazing up toward his eyes while tilting my head backwards.

"The force field around your pack is gone," He stated exasperatedly as he ran his fingers through his dark hair and paced back and forth around my room.

Opening my mouth to respond, he gave me a look of amazement as he realized, "You are what protects this pack."

Unsure of what he was suggesting, I gave him a confused look and got up from the floor. I wiped underneath my eyes with my arms quickly as well. I did not enjoy looking like complete shit in front of my physically flawless soulmate.
