After saying that to Romeo he stared at me with his mouth wide open. I quickly turned and ran to my car as quick as my legs would go before Romeo could say anything to me or try to talk me out of it. I started my car and quickly backed out of my parking space. As i drove up to the main road, i glanced in my rear-view mirror. Romeo was standing in the same exact spot, with the same exact expression on his face.
I shut my eyes to avoid tears and pressed on the gas once i re-opened them so i could speed away from Romeo. I couldn't take any more stress on, stress is what i should be avoiding, not causing.
I thought about everything my dad said. Maybe i should try to at least be civil with my dad, since i already am missing one parent... do i really want to be missing another one? And a little sister who i miss already?
I pulled into Megan's driveway and turned my car off before i picked up my iphone out of the cup holder. I created a new message and typed:
"I'll be one of Monica's bridesmaids."
and pressed send.
The blue bar at the top of my screen finished, and the word "DELIVERED" appeared under the message, symbolizing that it has been sent to my dad. I locked my phone and grabbed the keys as i got out of the car and walked to the front door.
I knocked twice before Megan's mom opened it up. "Chelsea, come in." She said as she stepped to the side.
"Thank you." I said, giving her a tiny smile that had barely even spread across my lips.
"Megan should be in her room upstairs." She said as she shut the wooden door behind me.
"Okay." I said as i walked to the stairs and slowly jogged up them.
Megan's door was slightly cracked open, which was not normal if you knew Megan like i did. She either had to have her door wide open, or closed shut, anything in between would drive her crazy. Her light was off in her room, i was guessing she was probably just on her laptop, trying to save electricity or whatever she always lectures me about.
"You will not believe what happened today, Megan." I said as i walked into her room that was pitch black, which was very weird, because even though Megan had them, she never ever would close her curtains. "Megan?" I asked as i felt around her wall for the light switch. I couldn't find it. I forgot that this was her house in England, not the one in Rhode Island where the light switch was located right next to the door so it was easy to turn on and off, whenever you pleased.
"Ugh, Megan." I sighed as i walked over to the curtains and opened them, revealing the bright sunshine that felt like it could almost blind you if you looked at it for too long. "Why aren't you answering me?" I questioned as i turned around for the window to look at her room that was now lit up with the light from the sun again.
I looked down next to Megan's bed, she was laying there like she was dead. "Megan?" I asked as i rushed to her and kneeled down by her side. "Oh my gosh, Megan. Are you okay? Please talk to me!" I said as i shook her, wishing that she was just sleeping and would wake up any second now.
"MRS. BAKER!" I yelled as loud as i could from Megan's bedroom.
I heard her footsteps running from downstairs, all the way up the wooden stairs, and into Megan's bedroom. "Oh my gosh, what happened?" She asked as she quickly kneeled down next to me and grabbed Megan's ice cold hand.
"Hurry, Chelsea... call 911, please!" She said, gripping Megan's hand. I could hear the fear in Mrs. Baker's voice.
I quickly got up and walked into the square-shaped hallway area that separated the two bedrooms in the house that were exactly across from each other.
"Hi, i'm at 4137 Hillsbury road, my best friend is unconscious on the floor and we don't know what happened, we need help, QUICK!" I shouted into the phone. I tried to stay calm, but i couldn't.
"Ma'am, please stay calm, we are sending an ambulance right now." The lady operator on the other side of the phone said to me as i paced in the hallway, holding the phone to my ear with sweaty hands.
"Thank you, please hurry." I said as i pressed end on the call and ran back into Megan's room where her mom was still on the floor next to her.
"An ambulance is on their way the lady said." I told her mother as i sat down next to her, staring at my best friend with a worried look on my face.
"What could have happened?" I asked. There was no blood, no open pill bottles that could have made her overdose or anything - not that Megan would ever do anything like that.
"I don't know, but i'm really concerned." Her mother said as she kept a tight grip on her daughters hand, letting a tear stream down her cheek.
As Mrs. Baker and i sat there with Megan in silence for a few minutes, we began to hear the roaring noise of sirens approaching us. The siren noises got closer and closer until i saw the lights flashing through the window.
"There here." I whispered to Mrs. Baker. I didn't think she would be able to even hear me, since my whisper was so quiet i doubted it could be hear, but Mrs. Baker shook her head for a few seconds, before we heard the door swing open and the talk of several different people downstairs.
"She's up here," I shouted down the stairs to the people, "and i don't think she's breathing."
