Megan's pov:
It was dark and I could barely see where I was going. I had no idea where I was, or how to even get home. I constantly would check my phone to see if I had service, but was disappointed every time when the words "no service" appeared on the top left corner of my phone screen.
"This is it," I said out loud to myself, "this is how I'm going to die." My feet squished on the wet mud, making a slosh sound. My eyes were heavy, and I was ready to fall asleep any second.
As I continued to walk on the mud, which I was assuming was some type of dirt road, I heard something that sounded like someone rustling through some bushes. "Hello?" I called out, starting to get nervous as I stopped dead in my tracks and looked around. I couldn't see anything, but the rustling continued. "Is anyone there?"
I continued to look around, even though I couldn't see anything. Then I grabbed my phone out of my pocket and turned on the flashlight. I shined it in the direction I heard the sounds, and just like I thought, it was a group of bushes. I tried to squint to see if anything was in the bushes, but I couldn't see anything.
Then something popped out of the bushes, causing me to drop my phone. My phone plopped right down into a puddle of soggy, wet mud.
I quickly bent down to grab my phone, trying to wipe it off a little bit since I needed to be able to see the screen. I then shined the flashlight back in the direction of the bushes, hoping to see what had popped out, but it was just a bunny rabbit. "Dumb rabbit." I sighed, "you scared me!"
Then I turned with my flashlight still on and looked down the long, muddy road. My legs were already aching in pain from walking so far, and all the hope I had was left at the last muddy road I was on. I glanced down on my phone and saw I had one bar of service in the top left corner. "Oh my gosh!" I gasped. I quickly unlocked my phone and started to call Chelsea since she was at the top of my recent calls list. It rang once before she picked up.
"Megan? Megan are you there?" She said into the phone, she sounded worried.
"Oh my gosh, Chelsea!" I said, trying to hold back the tears that were welling up in my eyes from happiness.
"Megan where are you? Are you okay?" She asked.
"I'm fine, I'm fine. And I'm not sure where I'm at." I said as I looked around. In the distance I saw my flashlight reflecting off a green skinny sign. "Wait on second, I think there's a sign up here that will tell me where I'm at!" I said as I ran towards the sign.
I shined my flashlight up at it and read the sign. "It says I'm on Forester Road." I said into the phone after I turned my flashlight off.
"Forester road?" Chelsea said, confused. "Where's that at?"
"I don't know, but please, please come find me! I don't think I can walk any farther!" I groaned into the phone.
"Romeo says he knows where you're at, Megan." Chelsea said into the phone. My heart lifted in relief.
"Thank goodness." I said, feeling weight being lifted off my chest. "For a second there I thought..." I was cut off by a beep. I pulled my phone away from my ear and saw that the words "no service" were once again flashing up at the top left corner. "Just my luck." I mumbled to myself as I stuck my phone back in my pocket. I took my coat off and laid it down in the mud, then I sat on my coat. I felt the mud squish under my weight as I sat down, it felt like I was sinking into the ground. Tonight was a total disaster, but as I remembered everything that happened tonight, I realized something really important. I had no idea what I was going to say to Chelsea when she gets here.
It's not like I can tell her that I went to see her psychopath mother when I faked being sick and left the party, or that I actually went home because I was sick, because obviously I wouldn't be in this situation if I would have just went home. But I had to tell Chelsea something, and after the lies I have said recently, maybe I have to tell her the truth, I mean what other choice do I have? She may not understand that I only went to her mother because I wanted her and Sierra to be happy, and she may get angry at me and call me stupid, but at the end of the day, I was just trying to be a good friend, and I really hope she realizes that.
Over the hill I saw some lights approaching. I stood up and grabbed my coat out of the mud, thankful that they got here so quickly. The car headlights approached me, and then drove right by. The song "679" by Fetty Wap was playing inside the car, and the window was down. I sighed as the car drove by, wishing that it would have been Chelsea and Romeo, and I would already be hugging Chelsea by now, in her warm hugs that make you feel like you're home, no matter where you are. But I had to face the fact that I was on this muddy road, all because of my decisions and my actions.
