Chapter Fourteen - Small World.

Three Weeks Later.

Mello's P.O.V

Laying in bed as IV's ran through my wrists an' sides I lightly groaned out in pain.

My shoulder had still been in a bit of pain so moving around became a bit of an issue for me.

"Mr. Carter." My assigned doctor, Dr. Williams spoke up while making his way into the room. "How've you been young man."

"Good." I spoke out as he sent a friendly smile my way. "When can I leave?"

He lightly chuckled.

"I know you don't wanna be here right now but your badly hurt son."

"Where's everyone at?" I realized I was all alone.

"They went home." He spoke coldly. "I told them to stay but they all decided on heading home."

"Mama too?" I questioned a bit sad.

"Like I said." He began to speak. "They figured since you weren't doing any better that it made no sense being here with you."

"But I'm fine." I could feel the warmth from my tears sliding down my face. "Right?"

"That's what I told them." He assured me as he looked towards me with a face full of sympathy. "But there's someone I want you to meet."

I watched as his smile grew.

"Who is it?" I questioned thinking maybe it would be Mama those.

"Give me a minute."

I then watched as he walked away.

Sitting there thinking of what he said earlier I sighed lightly.

Was everything he said the truth?

Did my family really up an' leave me?

"Car'Mello?" I heard a female voice call out thinking that it may have been Mama.

"I'm your assigned nurse for the rest of your stay." She sent a warm smile my way. "They all call me nurse Jackson around here but since we're gonna be such good friends I think maybe you can call me Ashantii."

Looking at her I could've sworn I knew her from somewhere - I knew exactly who she was but could not put my finger on it for some odd reason.

"Dr. Williams is my father so I know he'll take good care of you." She began giving me my daily checkup. "I heard about your family leaving you here all alone an' if it makes you feel any better just remember I'll always be here for you."

"Can I call them?" I could feel myself becoming dizzy from shot she had injected into my arm. "What's going o--"

I then blacked out into deep sleep.

Ashantii's P.O.V

"Now are you ready to tell me what exactly is going on?" My father Dr. Williams startled me as he unexpectedly entered the room while speaking.

"Shut the door." I instructed him to do in a whisper. "I've already explained this to you."

"You never told me why you shot him Ash."

"That's none of your damn business." I quickly snapped.

After Mell had fired me from being his assistant an' him also breaking things off between us I decided it was time to get him back.

Mell knew about my family's long history line of doctors an' nurses so him finding out about me being here was something I planned on avoiding.

I loved Mell - I loved him more than he knew so him firing me an' basically deleting me out of his life was something I refused to let happen.
