Alyn and Orshon sat on the small metal bench inside the cell. Oddly enough this dungeon was located on a busy street and was not underground. Instead it was at ground level in the back of some sort of establishment that seemed to be home to this land's equivalent of knights. They wore no armor though they were armed. Both with the strange lightning device that shocked Alyn to the ground and similar shaped weapons that had holes on the end. Alyn wasn't sure what came out of those holes, but she wasn't to eager to find out. Though she had never seen anything like them she knew what someone holding a weapon looked like.
"You could get us out of here, could you not?" She turned to ask Orshon. He turned and glared at her.
"You get us in and I get us out. Is that where you would like us to go from here?" He snapped. Alyn rolled her eyes.
"I only inquired if they knew the whereabouts of the Black Sorcerer." Alyn recounted.
"Yes, and when they made it clear that they were unaware of him and found your words confusing you summoned your sword and threatened to attack them." Alyn threw her hands up.
"They insulted me. They claimed that I am insane. Then they insulted you for merely being with me and called us both trash. I would not have injured them, but was I supposed to let them insult our honour?" She asked. Orshon shook his head.
"It is hard to remember just how different we are. You are far too preoccupied with the idea that the words of others could damage your honour." He replied. Alyn rolled her eyes again.
"And I suppose it is all beneath you, oh enlightened one." This remark was followed by several minutes of stony silence from both the wizard and the knight. After the silence Orshon was the first to speak.
"I could break the bars easily. However, with that many warriors around we would not get very far, even fighting our hardest. Their weapons are surprisingly formidable." Orshon explained. Alyn nodded.
"How could they have created those shocking devices without magic? Even the most advanced kingdoms in our own world do not posses its equivalent." Alyn asked. Orshon shrugged.
"Perhaps without magic they have been forced to make progress in other areas that we have not explored. Look at the lamps, they are flameless. If they can harness the power of lightning into a weapon perhaps they have learned to do other things with it as well." He explained. More silence followed, not as charged this time. Orshon was right, they would not escape as long as the dungeon was full. They would simply have to wait.
.....
Alex and Oliver stepped into the precinct and stood by the door. Alex looked around, the cop they had asked said that this was where the strange man and woman had been taken. The question was how to see them without getting kicked out and maybe arrested. Oliver looked around nervously and turned to his sister.
"What the hell are we doing here?" He whispered. "I don't need to find out who they are that badly. We need to get out of here!" Oliver looked terrified. Alex looked at her brother and wondered, not for the first time how they were related. Ollie was smart and could get things right away that other people didn't. But he had developed a tendency to play it safe after he nearly flunked out of college because he was too busy partying. She grabbed him by the shoulder and led him outside.
"Come on, Ollie! We've done way worse than this, all I want to do is talk to them. What happened to the brother who helped me break into the theatre projection booth and watch all the Indiana Jones movies in the middle of the night?" Alex pleaded. Oliver scratched his head.
