Alex could hardly contain her excitement as they walked through the enormous door of Gonzor Castle. Oliver was next to her clearly freaking out on the inside. It was a seriously big occasion. They just crossed into another universe to meet an honest to God king. Oliver was wearing the only suit he owned, last worn to a friend's wedding. Alex looked slightly more impressive in her dress uniform. Alyn and Orshon stood on either side of them, Alyn in freshly shined armor and Orshon in a brand new cloak made with imported green dye. The four approached the steps leading to the King's throne and knelt. King Tomas Blackfeather rose from his throne and descended the steps. Standing near the bottom of the steps was Tarret the page holding a tray upon which rested several medals. Eron and Edar were standing by looking very proud indeed.
"In honour of your defeat of the Black Sorcerer, thereby saving this world and many others, I am told. I am happy to present you all with these awards." The King said with a smile as he picked up the first medal. "I present this medal of honour and valor to Lady Alyn Dufrane, The Persistent, Captain of the Royal Guard of Gonzor for her part in the Black Sorcerer's defeat." Alyn smiled as she stood and the King pinned the medal on her chest. Next the King moved to Orshon. "I present this medal of honour and valor to Orshon Dufrane, the Green, High Wizard of Gonzor for his part in the Black Sorcerer's defeat. Now the King went to Oliver. "I present this medal of honour and valor to Oliver Shepherd, of the nation of America for his part in the Black Sorcerer's defeat." Oliver looked terrified and exhilarated at the same time as the King pinned the medal to his suit. Finally it was Alex's turn. "I present this medal of honour and valor to Lady Alexandra Shepherd, of the nation of America for her part in the Black Sorcerer's defeat." Alex grinned, obviously Alyn had told the King that Alex was a knight. Which she supposed was close enough. The King leaned down to pick up the royal staff; for all its importance it looked rather simple, carved wood with styled feathers and other decorations hanging off it. "With this staff, gifted to me by my ancestors I name you both honourary knights of Gonzor. Oliver the Loyal, and Alexandra the Brave." When the ceremony was over Alyn and Orshon escorted Alex and Oliver back to the portal that would take them home, both now sporting magic homing tattoos.
"Remember, you should be able to communicate with us in some fashion if you are close to the portal. We will come if you need us." Orshon said. Alex hugged him and then Alyn. Oliver chose to shake their hands.
"Don't hesitate to visit. If you need us again we'll gladly help." Alex returned, Oliver nodded as well.
"Goodbye. And good luck." Alyn said. Alex nodded.
"You guys too." And with that Alex and Oliver stepped through the portal and returned to New York. Alyn turned to her brother.
"What do you think of this new assignment we have been given, to explore and map the other worlds?"
"I think it will be a challenge, but I am looking forward to it." Orshon answered with a smile. Alyn nodded.
"I think I am too."
