Diana's POV

*Wednesday, 8th of August, 2012*

Ashton had told me that he was going to come over. He said there was something he needed to get off his chest, so of course I agreed.

I heard the doorbell ring and immediately went to answer it. My mum was at work so I was home alone.

I opened the door to see a very nervous Ashton.

"Hi!" I chirped.

"Hey," he said softly, giving me a small smile.

I smiled and gestured for him to enter, but I was confused as to why he was acting so weird.

I closed the door behind him and lead him into the lounge room, where we both sat down across from each other. There was a long moment of awkward silence, which I decided to end.

"So...you said you wanted to tell me something?" I asked, looking at him to make sure what I was saying was correct.

He nodded but didn't speak.

'He's in his head at the moment.'

I realised he was playing with the hem on the sleeves of his grey jumper and wondered if he was still cutting.

Then it dawned on me that this is what it could have been be about. I pushed that thought away though, because the last time I'd asked, which was when I had found out for the first time, he'd refused to tell me and gotten so angry that he'd basically thrown me out.

After another long pause, Ashton finally let out a sigh.

'He's back.'

"I'm sorry for the other day," he apologised, looking up to face me. He didn't show any emotion, but his voice was serious. He sounded genuine.

"You don't have to apologise, you didn't do anything wrong," I smiled.

"I did, and I'm sorry," he insisted.

"It's fine," I sighed.

"Do you want to know why?" he asked suddenly.

"Why, what?" My eyebrows knitted together.

"Why I do it, uh, did it," he elaborated, but only minimally.

"Only if you're comfortable telling me," I agreed. He nodded, took a deep breath and began.
