“So this is what you’ll first be working on,” Sarah told me the next day. We were at the diner and Sarah had taken me to the bathrooms. “All the newbies start out here before they move up to actually taking orders and things like that.”

“I see,” I paused by a stall and looked back at Sarah. “Anyway I can skip the initiation?”

Sarah laughed. “No way I can get you out of this, even if I tried. Sorry though.”

I nodded. “Okay, well this shouldn’t be so bad.”

“They just need to be cleaned once a day,” Sarah explained, leaving them and moving on to tour the rest of the place. Which wasn’t much. “That’s at closing time, so no need to do it right now. You’ll need to do sweeping and mopping at the end as well. So all you really need to do for most of the day is wash dishes,” Sarah said with a slight smile.

“Well golly,” I said. “What do you do?”

Sarah laughed. “I take orders, clean tables and pick up messes.”

“I think I got the better end of the stick,” I told her sarcastically.

“How I wish to be new again,” she said with a fake sigh and a laugh.

“Okay so dishes, then mopping and sweeping and then washrooms,” I went over.

“Well you’ll be split up so you won’t have so much to do at the end of the night. Usually I stay the latest and do the washrooms,” she went over to a bulletin board and pointed out her name. “But we can switch up every other day.”

“Are you sure that Mr. Maleev is the one who runs this place?” I questioned with a smile.

“Runs it? No. Pays for the rent and things like that? Yes,” she frowned with fake thought.

“Dishes then,” I said going over to the sink.

“We’ve just opened up, so yes,” Sarah agreed with a nod and turned to leave. “Your breaks are at 11:30 and 4:30, just like me.”

“Okay,” I agreed with a yawn. I shouldn’t have stayed up so late, because waking up at 7:45 to get to work for 8:00 was not the best idea.

“Alright, have fun,” she said with a slight wave before leaving.

I leant against the sink and another person came over to me. He was tall with blonde hair and green eyes.

“My name’s Jordan,” he said holding out his hand and I shook it. “Just to let you know that whatever I put on that side of the sink is what you wash,” he told me pointing to the right side of the sink. “And on the other side, don’t wash them. I might need them.”

“Alright,” I assured him and he smiled leaving me alone, while he went and started cooking.

The day amazingly happened to go by so fast. Four and a half hours went by fast when I got to take my forty-five minute break. Sarah and me sat at one of the tables and were eating some lunch when Alyson came through the door with two large books.

“What’re those for?” I questioned as she sat down at our table.

“These are for research to get home,” she explained hitting the books with a happy slap.

“I thought you said there was no possibility of us getting home,” I frowned looking at her.

“That was before I realized, that I need to do much more research to back up my theory,” she told me. “So I went to the library, which by the way Mrs. Watson still works there and she’s still bitter. Anyways I took out these books after getting a handy dandy new library card, and decided to read more about space, time, and things like that.”

   “Alright,” I said unsure.

“I was on my way back to the house, when I stopped in here to say hi,” Alyson stole a fry from my plate and shoved it in her mouth. “But now I should be getting back to research and all that jazz.”

“I’m sure you’ll find some luck between the pages of a book,” Sarah said with a smile. “Well hopefully anyways.”

“Yeah, yeah,” Alyson said rolling her eyes. “The books just kind of pour their hearts out to you.”

“Ally,” I said with a frown. I had gotten over my anger at Sarah, why couldn’t she?

“Whatever,” she tossed her brown hair and left our table.

“She doesn’t like me does she?” Sarah questioned.

“It’s not you’re fault,” I told her. It’s my fault. “She just gets like that with new people. Just wait she’ll warm up to you.”

Sarah shook her head and we finished our meal in silence before we went back to work. This time it went by even faster and so did the break. Then closing time came and we finished our work before closing up and walking home.
