Jeremy told his friends to meet him at his house and we sat at the pond. He wiped the tears off my face and held me. “Look everything is going to be alright. He won’t find you,” I scooted closer to him, “You know… you need a boyfriend to protect you. Maybe… I could be the boyfriend… who protects you.” I scooted away and looked at him. “…Are you asking me out?” He smiled and said, “Yeah, I like you Lola, I want to be more than just friends. So… is that a yes?” I smiled and said, “It’s definitely a yes.” He hugged me and we then laid back in the grass. “Look you should still come to my party. You could really use some fun given the circumstances. Plus I know with me… you’ll have a lot of fun.”
We walked back to my house and I left a note telling dad that I would be and at a party and won’t be late. He kissed me on the cheek and piggy backed me to his house. The party started without him. We walked into his crowded apartment. People were sitting down talking, dancing on top of things, drinking beer, doing keg stands, others were trying to hook up with some girls. We walked into the kitchen and he sat me on top of a counter. “Wait right here,” he said while yelling over the music, “I’ll go get a beer.” Reese came over and sat on the counter with me. “So Lola,” he yelled, “You’re pretty adorable.” I could tell he was drunk. He leaned in to kiss me and I held him back. Jeremy came back and pushed Reese away. “Sorry about that,” he said handing me a beer, “He gets like that when he’s drunk.” We sat on the counter holding hands, and looking at the party. A couple of drunk guys tried kissing me, and Jeremy was there pushing them away. “Jeremy,” Eric yelled pushing through some people, “Come on and do a keg stand.” He grabbed Jeremy and yanked him away. I spotted a fragile looking guy standing in the corner. I got off the counter and walked up to him. “Hey,” I said yelling over the music, “I’m Lola.” He held out his hand and said, “Logan.” I shook his hand and said, “Logan, so what brings you to party like this?” “The school newspaper,” he yelled, “Almost every time his parents goes away he throws really cool parties. The next day I write about them. He’s one of the most popular guys in Wrigley High School.” He looked like he was scared. “You wanna dance,” I asked. He looked at me scared and said, “I don’t know. You’re pretty you should dance with the popular guys.” I rolled my eyes and grabbed his hand. I led him to the dance floor and got him to dance. He was geeky, but a little cool.
While dancing, someone yanked me away from Logan. She had brown hair and green eyes. “Um, can I help you?” She rolled her eyes and said, “Hillary, what are you doing dating Jeremy Richards. He’s mine.” I pushed her off me and said, “Wow I can tell he has a stalker. He asked me out. As far as I know, he didn’t ask you out. Maybe you’re not pretty enough.” I walked away from her. She pushed me into the sofa. “Stay away from Jeremy you slut.” I turned around breathing hard. I wasn’t seeing clearly, I was seeing red. I didn’t realize I had so much anger pent up. She walked away and I grabbed her by the hair and slammed her into the wall. She pushed me again and tackled me in the living room. Everyone was watching us. Guys were laughing. I pushed her off me and punched her in the face repeatedly. I grabbed her by the neck and kneed her in the ribs. When she sank down, I kneed her in her face, making her fall on her back. I ran my hand through my hair, trying to control my breathing. I stopped seeing red and looked around. Everyone was looking at me with a shocked look on their faces, even Jeremy. “What… she called me a slut.”
My phone rang so I left the room and went on the terrace. “Hi Dani,” I said while sighing. “Hey Lola… what’s wrong?” I wiped Hillary’s blood off my hands and said, “I got in a fight with a girl. She called me a slut, so I beat her ass.” I could hear her cheering. “Yes!! Finally, you get in your first fight and you beat her ass.” I laughed at her. She always wanted me to fight. I don’t like being called a slut. I made out with my moms’ husband. I thought I was a slut. I was coerced. He was there when I kinda needed someone. He filled that empty hole, and then destroyed me. “I gotta go Dani, I’ll talk to you later… I promise.” I hung up and sat down on one of the benches.
