You wake up EXTRA early because you're just way too excited about the first day of high school. As you get ready you realize how lame your wardrobe is. You have a stack of Big Time Rush, Justin Bieber, One Direction, Pokémon, and Minecraft shirts that you used to wear daily. Now that you are heading into high school you realize how 8th grader'ish your clothes actually look like. Whether you're entering your freshman or senior year, first day of school outfits are one of the most important looks of your academic career. Lucky for you I'm giving you a heads up on what to expect and what to wear. Here is the 411 on first day outfits...

If you are a guy all you need is:

Ø Khaki shorts

Ø Basketball shorts (you might use this more than you think)

Ø Comfy t-shirts

Ø Hoodies

Ø A pair of sneakers (Nikes, Under Armor, anything that floats your boat really)

Ø A pair of boat shoes (Sperry's is an example)

Ø Joggers (try to have different colors and styles)

Ø A couple of button downs (for when you try to look nice)

Ø Crew socks (you can find them anywhere)

If you are a girl all that is essential is:

Ø Shorts (not too short please)

Ø An abundance of cardigans

Ø Tank tops (please wear your cardigan over them)

Ø Soft cotton shirts (both long sleeve and short sleeve)

Ø Jeans

Ø Converse

Ø Sandals (there are some really cute ones at Charlotte Russe and Forever 21)

Ø Exercise pants

Ø Hoodies

Now let me get something clear, I'm not saying that this needs to be your style. All I'm saying is that this is what is "in style" right now. By all means you can be the flower of your choice. You don't need to please anyone or conform to society to be happy. YOU ARE PERFECT JUST THE WAY YOU ARE.

Now that you have a rough idea, you are now prepared. You don't have to freak out as much as I did. You don't need to feel bad or ashamed, you must know that you aren't the only student in the world stressing out about your outfit. I was one of them. My outfit had been laid out two nights prior to my first day. I thought going in on my first day of high school could potentially set my reputation within those halls for the four years to come. I ended up wearing a red top with boot cut denim jeans, adorable white Converse, and a

backpack from Claire's. Mind you, I went to high school in Oviedo, Florida so my school was basically an abundance of camo and cowboy boots. I thought that dressing different from everyone else would ruin the reputation that I wanted to maintain.

Now, fast-forward to my senior year, I'm wearing ripped jeans, a UCF hoodie and a messy bun. What am I trying to tell you with this? Well darling, it does matter to "dress to impress" but you're only going to school, not a fashion show. You can "dress up", but do it for yourself and not for others. Just so you know you probably won't know this people in ten years. So why try to set an image for them. DO IT FOR YOURSELF NOT FOR OTHERS!!!

Remember that each school has a different dress code. You should definitely keep that in mind. Also PLEASE DRESS ACCORDING TO WEATHER. When you dress like its summer when it 43 degrees outside is not smart.
