"Well, where are we going and do you want to spilt the pay or no?" I ask as we pull out of the apartment driveway.
He looks at me and grins. "For one, we are not gonna spilt the pay, I have that covered, and two, I was thinking we could go to Applebees?" He turns his head back to the road, but I continue to stare.
"Applebees? That's awesome but quite expensive." He doesn't say anything so I continue. "Well ok then, I like that. What do you want to do after that?" I ask.
He shrugs his shoulders. "I don't know, lets talk about that when it happens." I look at him confused but shake my head. His sudden warmth seemed to had disappeared but I just act like its me. We pull in to the driveway and the smell of food makes my stomach growl.
"Yum." I say and stretch as we get out of the car and start to walk to the front doors.
He grabs my hand and says, "Table for two please." The waiter hands each of us a menu and she leads us to a table that was in the side row but in the middle, where we both see a tv. "Do you know what you want?" He asks, putting down the menu to peer at me over the top.
I shrug my shoulders. "I really like steak, but im not sure." I look at the different types of food and still don't know. The waiter comes up to the table.
"Is their anything I can get you to drink?" She asks. She doesn't really look at me, but at Grant, but he seems to ignore her flashing smile.
"What do you want babe?" He asks me in a smooth voice. As he says it, the waiter gives me a frown but with a questioning look.
"Cherry coke please." I say. She looks at Grant but he shakes his head no. She walks off and I look at him. "What was that about?" I ask. He looks at me.
"What are you talking about?" He questions me with a frown. I look away, my smile gone. Today had been going great but it seemed ever since we got to the restaurant, it had been going down hill. "What is it?" He asks me. I look back over and stare in to his deep brown eyes and sigh.
"I don't know. Ever since we got to the restaurant it feels like things haven't been the same. Im just not sure how long what we have is going to last, and I don't want it to ever end, you have felt that way, right?" I ask. Deep in my stomach I can feel the fear of what he might say and I open my mouth to say more but he stops me.
"Yes, I know we just met earlier, but I love you. Yes, that is unrealistic, but its the truth. When we were apart for me going to get my stuff, my heart ached for you. All I hope is that you feel the same." He smiles at me the best smile I had ever seen.
"I do feel the same, I promise and I never want this to end." I scoot over closer to him and lay my head down on his shoulder waiting for the waiter to come back. She comes to the table and sets down our drink.
"What would you like to order, or do you need another minute?" She pulls our her pad of paper and pen and sets her hand.
Grant looks at me and I shrug my shoulders. He looks up at the waiter and says, "I want to share a 8oz. steak with her if that's ok." Both the waiter and me nod our heads.
"Ok, anything else?" Grant and I shake our heads and she walks off with a flip of her hair.
I go to reach for a drink but Grant grabs it first. "Looks like you are to slow." He grins at me and takes a drink. I hit the bottom of the cup and some of the pop splashes on and up his nose.
I crack up laughing and say, "Let me help you with that." I take a napkin and pat his nose dry. As I do, I steal the pop out of his hands and take a drink myself, leaning away so he cant do what I did to him. The waiter comes and gives us our food and we eat trying to get at each other but after what I did, we successfully avoid each other. When we finish, we get up to leave. Grant puts down money to pay for the bill, twenty dollars. I push the money aside and set down ten. "You cant pay for the whole thing, thats not right, ill pay for half." He opens his mouth to say something but I give him a look that means no.
We walk out to the parking lot holding hands and climb in to the car. I start to fall asleep as I watch the sky turn bright orange and yellow with blue and purple mixed in like someone carelessly threw a paintbrush at the sky. The next moment Grant has laid me on the couch and I wake up with a start.
"Hey." He hushes. "Its ok, you fell asleep on the way back home so I decided to lay you on the couch." He smiles at me and sits on the edge of the couch. "I hope it wasnt my boringness that made you fall asleep." He grins and strokes my back.
I laugh. "Your never boring." I pause, if to debate. "I like how you said you brought me home, like we live together." I smile. "Will you stay here? With me? I can drive you to the university tomorrow." I plead with my eyes. "Ok, fine." He lays down with me on the couch and i fall asleep soundly wishing it to be like this all the time. I loved him.
