I dream of the day when technology was shut down, when the Lunatic virus awoken from the bodies of men, women and children. The day my family tried to kill me.
I know it's a dream but my mind won't wake up. I don't want to relive that day every night when I sleep. I try to tell my unconscious that it's a nightmare and I need to wake up. But my brain and body won't wake.
I beg to wake up. I don't want to live through the day I killed my family, I can't. I feel something pull myself from unconsciousness. My eyes burst open and I see Kaylee above me shaking me awake.
"You were kicking and shaking in your sleep. I woke you up because I was panicking, thinking you were having a seizure." She whispers.
"No, it was something much worse." I mutter. "Thank you for waking me up." I see a faint light peeking through the entrance hole. It must be about six in the morning. I stand up and start packing my book, container and water bottles in the bag.
I pass the plain, light blue backpack to Kaylee. She looks up at me with narrow eye. "You have to carry the bag for the trip, while I carry your brother." I tell her.
She lets out a smile, "How are you going to carry him? He weighs a ton."
"He doesn't look obese to me." I reply, in my head it was a joke but I guess the serious look on my face said I wasn't. "When are we leaving?" Kaylee asks.
"Right now." I go over to Alfred, I bend over and place one of my arms under his knee's and the other under his armpits. I slowly lift. He isn't the heaviest person in the world but I think during the trip I would have to take a break every now and again. Alfred's side pushes against my torso.
I bounce him for a second so he is in the right position. "How are we going to fit him in the hole." Good question, Kaylee. An idea pops up in my head. I walk to the hole and drop Alfred in front of it. I gesture for Kaylee to go through the hole, to the other side. I push his legs through the hole after Kaylee. "Grab his ankles." I tell her as I lift Alfred's arms.
I didn't want to drag him, on his back, through the hole because that might cause a lot of pain for him. Kaylee and I pick her brother up and shuffle until most of his body is outside. We slowly drop his body to the ground. Kaylee props him up against the barn next to the hole so I can fit through.
Once I was out of the hole I lifted Alfred up once again. With Alfred in my arms, I start walking the path that Kaylee and I took the day before.
