It was the day of the ball, I had done all my house work and was getting ready early so I would have time to help James.
I already had my dress on, which had been a gift from Aidon.
It was all white, and from the waist up was lace. At the waist was a belt that looked like it had been braided and the skirt was plain white silky material that flowed around my legs. It was my favorite dress I owned and I wore it a lot to meetings with other countries we were trying to make allies with.
So now I was doing up my hair, which the white color of my dress exaggerated. I had decided to do a simple but really nice style that only took a few minutes.
I braided my hair into two braids over my shoulders then tied them off. Then I took them behind my head and knotted it three times, it took three since my hair was so long, and took the remaining ends and clipped them with a gray clip that had diamonds in it.
Then I did my makeup. I had very nice makeup because I had brought it with me, they only had rouge and chole since they had lost the information for technology.
I put on some pink sort of purple ish color for my lipstick, and then did eyeliner with a wing and a smoky eye in gray. I put on a little blush and mascara then was done.
I looked in the mirror one last time then headed to help James get ready.
I walked through the kitchen, holding my skirt in my hand so it wouldn't snag on anything.
I walked into James's room and found him on his bed reading, we had just enough time to get ready and go.
He looked up from his book noticing me in the doorway.
"Wow, you look nice. Aidon's gonna have a heart attack when he sees you.", he said, grinning.
"Oh shut up, I need to get you ready in fifteen minutes, so let's get moving."
I went to his wardrobe and started throwing his clothes at him. I didn't know why I had to help him get ready for parties but it was in the job description so I had to do it.
I went out to go get his slacks and tie that I had been ironing before getting ready while he changed into his shirt, and jacket.
When I came back, the pants and tie hung on my arm, he had already slipped into his clothes.
"Here", I said, handing him his pants.
I turned around as he put them on,"done, would you mind helping me with my tie? Whenever I do it it takes forever."
I turned back, I swear he couldn't do anything himself. So I took it and folded his collar up, putting it under, I quickly tied it and pulled it tight.
He choked a little, pulling it looser and glowering at me. I smiled and shrugged, grabbing his comb off of his desk.
He was sitting in front of the mirror, straightening his collar and jacket. I started to try and smooth his hair that was sticking up I'm every direction, but it would not stay how I wanted it. Water wasn't going to work, so I ran back to my room to grab some of the hair gel I had. It smelled like lavender, but hopefully he wouldn't mind.
I returned, the gel in my hand, to find him running his hands through his hair, making it even messier than before.
"I think I'm ready to go, are you done?", he asked. I just looked at him with an incredulous expression on my face, did he want to look like a hobo? Because with his hair like that it looked like he was a bum with a suit on.
"Yes I'm done, but you are not. Have you looked in that mirror? Your hair's a mess, now sit down, I'm short and can't reach your head when your standing."
He sat down and I came and put the gel in my hands, rubbing it between my hands then rubbing my hands through his hair. He really needed to condition, it was like horse hair.
"What are you putting in my hair!?", he said, turning his head to look at me.
I rolled my eyes,"just some stuff to make your hair stay, now let me brush it before it drys."
He did as I said and I quickly ran it through his hair, finally making it stay.
"There, now we can go, and stop grumbling, lavender is a good scent."
I couldn't help but laugh, now his hair couldn't get messed up, he wouldn't be able to run his hands through it.
We walked into the front room, where his mother was standing. She had slowly become less suspicious of me over the past few days, I had been on my best behavior, just doing all my duties and being quiet.
"You both look nice, the carriage is outside, hurry before your late.", she said, waving towards the door.
We headed towards the door, and he helped me into the carriage like the gentleman he wasn't.
We stayed quiet the whole way, not a tense silence, but comfortable.
As we pulled up the couch had to yell to clear a path, it was so crowded.
There were hundreds of people milling around, waiting to get through the door. All were in beutiful dresses or suits made of the best material. Blues, greens, pinks, reds, all colors were making a rainbow of people, I had no idea how I was supposed to find Aidon in this.
I now understood why James didn't like living here and preferred the cottage.
Once we were to the doors the carriage stopped and I hopped out. Since we had been taken right it the doors I made my entrance, walking up the stairs, the long material of my dress dragging on the ground behind me as I held up the front.
If only they had modern technology, then I could have called him and asked where he was.
So I made my way up the big stairs and began my search.
A/n: the picture above is what's happening in my head, I swear I have so many good comebacks that will never get used :(
