Autumn Leaves

"Love doesn't mean forever", they said.

But I was numb to what they were saying.

You were my sun.

You touched me with your golden rays

and lit me up from the inside.

I basked in the warmth you provided

and didn't realise I was burning

until it was too late.

I tried to run but your cold fingers pulled me back.

I would call my mama's name out, in agony

but she never came.

The next day you would come to me with tears in your eyes.

"Baby, I'm sorry. It'll never happen again. I promise."

But your promises were as meaningful as the dying leaves in Autumn.
