I couldn't breath.

I couldn't see anything but red haze, hear anything but the ringing in my ears, sense anything but the burning, searing pain over my whole body.

I could feel the demon's spirit swirling around me, feel myself screaming even though I couldn't hear it. I felt the demon's claws tear down on stone buildings, crush homes, slowly destroying the city I had grown up in.

And I was at the center of it.

They would blame me. They would all blame me just like they always did, it was always my fault, everything was always my fault. It's tail swished, knocking over another tall building, I didn't know which.

It raised it's head and howled as I felt another scream building in my throat. Explosions set off all around us, burning us, destroying us. I heard the screams from below us, the shouting of the warriors trying to defeat the demon, the warriors who would blame me for what it did, what it made me do.

Pain split through my chest and I felt it's spirit flicker and freeze. All sound stopped, the ringing, the shouts, the destruction. It all stopped, and for the first time in hours, I could breath. I let out a sigh, and the earth came plummeting towards me.

I heard someone scream my name. I heard Mari scream my name...

"...ECKO!!"
