Chapter 2

Keon watched out his window until every light in Hazelwood was out then he pulled on a black cloak and grabbed his throwing knives and slipped out his window. Keon jumped from roof top to roof top only moving when archers had his back to them. He jumped into a yard after he got close to the jail. As he slipped through an alley he saw movement behind him and stopped dead in his tracks, he slowly looked back and saw a dog staring at him. Keon put a finger to his lip and pursed them the dog started walking away then turned and barked. Keon froze to see if anyone had heard, he quickly flipped the cloak inside out to the grey side and pressed his chest to the wall. A nearby guard walked to the mouth of the alley "whose there" he barked, Keon held his breath "if you don't answer I will come in there" he stomped into the alley, when he was a hair away Keon muttered "Austume" and a nearby barrel burst into flames. The guard turned and yelled toward the other guards "oi! Why is this aflame" the guards shrugged and started pouring water on it. Keon walked across the road behind them switching his coat right-side-in and went through a gap in the bars to the jailhouse. He quickly climbed to a third floor window and went in. He knew the keys would be on the fifth floor in the guard room but the two men would be in the cells in the basement. When Keon was about to open the door he heard footsteps coming from the other side, he quickly looked for a place to hide. The door swung open " I'm tellin' you mate the king is gathering troops for a defense the portal has been reopened by a dark wizard" one of the guards said. "I heard he is using them to hunt for the dragon swords but- he stopped to close the window, Keon had to use all his will to not scream from his fingers getting crushed. When the guards took a lantern and left Keon climbed back through the window and dropped to the floor. He examined his fingers and saw they were purple and puffy he muttered a spell to heal them and got to his feat and opened the door and walked out into the corridor.
