I. I asked if you had a favorite color.

Being the way you are you told me you didn't

Told me you thought every color was equally important.

I told you that was pretentious

and that mine was purple.

II. After that night I began to see colors

in places that had once been black and white.

for love and longing

and the way I care for you with every ounce of my being.

The way your absence rips my heart clean out of my body.

IV. Orange

for desire

how I want you to call me 'baby'

and 'darling'

and 'your girl'.

V. Yellow

for warmth

and joy

and the feeling in my chest when you wrap your arms around me.

The way my heart beats faster than I once perceived possible

as your fingertips dance across my skin.

VI. Green

for greed

and the way I don't want anyone else to have you.

this gift that I've been granted

by the grace of something far more divine than I.

VII. Blue

for healing

and softness.

How you told me you wanted to show me

what being loved was really like.

The gentleness of your voice

when you whispered 'you are safe with me'.

VIII. Purple

for romance and luxury

and all of the beautiful things you say to me.

How you make me feel like a million bucks.

IX. White

for purity

and the way that every thing about you is perfect to me.

X. Black

for strength.

How you seem to have so much

and I am embarrassed for having so little.

But you are strong enough for the both of us

when I cannot be

and I will be strong enough for the both of us

when you cannot be

because I love you.
