I was stunned. How could he say that? I left for a reason, and I was tempted to do it again. Here he was accusing me when he had no proof.
"Wha..what are you talking about?" My eyes widened.
Tyson, realizing what he said, dropped his chin. "Oh! I didn't mean it like that. I meant,I heard that he was on fire and you were there. God,I need to start thinking through my sentences again."
He walked over to where I was and trapped me in a bear hug. "I'm sorry, Cass. I didn't think through what I said. I didn't mean it,honestly." He kissed the top of my head. Squeezing me tightly, he said, "I don't want you to ever leave again. It was too much to be without my better half."
He let me go and then kissed me on the lips. "I got you something while you were away. Stay right there! Close your eyes! No peeking, either!"
I did as I was told and waited for his return. I heard footsteps in the the next room and chuckled. He was so loud. It was pretty much impossible for him to be quiet. I squinted my eyes and saw that he was rounding the corner. Quickly shutting my eyes again, I waited for him to show me his gift.
"Okay. Open them."
The first thing I saw was Tyson's enormous grin. I looked down and saw a giant box. Raising an eyebrow at him, I looked back at the box. I sat in the floor and started unwrapping it. Saw what you want to about men being sloppy, but Ty sure knew how to wrap a package.
I opened the box to find another wrapped box. With each layer being peeled off, Tyson's smile flares even wider. At the last box I thought his mouth was going to fall off of his face and onto the floor. I opened the last box and found another, unwrapped box.
"Tyson, if there is a mini box in here I swear to god I will get a ladder and drop kick you."
"Just open it. I think you will really like it." He smiled at me.
Opening the box, I found a note. It was one that he had written me in high school. It gave me directions to the park where we used to meet at.
"Ty,what are you playing at? And why did you use a note from high school?" I looked puzzlingly at him.
"You'll see. Just meet me at the park at midnight. I have a surprise for you." He smiled and kissed my forehead.
I thought for a moment. "Don't you have work tonight?"
"Oh. Well, you see. I got fired. It's no big deal. I've got applications out at various places so it's okay. I promise."
"What? Why did you get fired?" I didn't mean to,but I ended up shouting.
"Chief got mad that I yelled at you. He also said that I couldn't accuse you without evidence. Anyways. I have to go set up your surprise. See you at midnight! Wear something... Low cut?" He smiled and winked at me. I watched as he walked to the garage door. I heard the motorcycle start. I sat on the floor until the rumble faded into the distance.
I stood up and brushed off the back of my pants. I went to the closet to see what I would wear that night. I didn't want to get eaten by mosquitoes but I also didn't want to look like I was part of some cult. I ended up putting on some holey jeans and a thin hoodie. I put insect repellent in my purse. I would probably be needing that later. I grabbed my phone and keys and threw them next to the insect repellent. I locked all of the doors. I never bothered to deadbolt them. We had nothing worth stealing anyway. Just useless junk pretty much.
It was only 10:45 p.m. when I left the house. I had an hour and fifteen minutes to kill before I met Tyson. I decided that I would go to the police station and straighten things out. It was the least I could do. After all, I was the reason he got fired.
