Nick was dead. There was no way he could've survived that hit. I heard his bones breaking. I heard his skull crack. I don't think I was so scared in my life.
I ran out in the street where his body was. I kneeled down next to him and stupidly checked his neck for a pulse. It was so weak that I didn't feel it until he spoke.
"Be careful,Cassie." As he breathed his final breaths, he smiled at me and fell into eternal sleep.
I didn't care about all the people standing around us. I didn't care if they saw me cry. Right now though,I was concerned about Nick. I closed his eyes and held his lifeless hand. It was my fault he stopped in the middle of the street.
Someone pulled me off of the body and led me to a police car. I didn't even care at this point. My friend was just murdered in front of my eyes. I sat there with my head in my hands and cried until I couldn't cry anymore.
"Miss, could you please tell me what happened?"
I looked around for the voice and saw an officer sitting on the ground. He looked to be in his late thirties. He had brown hair with flecks of gray here and there. His blue eyes stood out against his dark complexion.
"He was running across the road, I wanted him to come back so I called his name. He turned around and then the semi truck hit him. Is this my fault?" I looked at the man and started crying again.
"Oh no. It couldn't have been prevented, dear. The truck was moving at almost eighty miles per hour. I promise this isn't your fault, sweetheart." He smiled at me and gave me a hug.
I smiled. "Can I please go back to my hotel?"
"I need some contact information in case we have more questions. After that, you certainly can."
After giving the officer my information,I went back to my hotel room. Adventure Time was long gone and now Adult Swim had taken over. I flipped the TV off and went to bed.
It was strange. I was expecting to have dreams about Nick and his death, but instead I didn't dream. It was an empty black void that was there until I woke up. It was haunting and interesting all at once.
I decided that if I was going to stay gone a week still, I needed to find a different hotel. I didn't want to stay across the spot where Nick was killed. I debated going home, but strangers seemed more inviting than Tyson did. Plus Nick warned me to be cautious around him.
That really bothered me. Tyson was yelling at me for having my talents, but then he acted sorry when I was leaving. I guess that's typical when you want someone to stay. But then Nick warned me that Tyson was going to try and take them away. Tyson had no solid evidence that I even had them, but Nick said he wanted to take them? It didn't make sense. I mean,if Tyson knew that I had these talents,it'd be different. He doesn't though.
Maybe Nick was implying that he would find out? I wasn't planning on showing Tyson after what he had said at the station. The phantom guy was right about one thing: people won't accept what they don't know. They are scared of change. Would Tyson really leave me though if he found out? He's been around for so long, I can't really imagine life without him. He's like air and I need him. Just not right now. I need him to be away from me.
I flopped down on the bed at the new hotel and searched for cartoons to listen to. I eventually found one and watched some old reruns. It didn't matter too much though. I wasn't paying much attention. Since my room came with a computer I searched the accident that happened last night.
A few results came up. They were mostly about some drunk getting stuck in the streets. There was one particularly interesting article though. It had two photographs. One was of Nick,pre-death, engulfed in flames. A short paragraph was written underneath it about how strange it was to see people surviving this. I continued scrolling down the page and saw the second photograph. It was of me shooting the fireballs from my hands.
