I sat back on my heels and ran my hands through my hair. Dawn was breaking and we were getting no were with this. I was tired, but he wasn't. It was ridiculous.
"Let's go again!" He shouted to me.
I rolled my eyes. "Let's take a break and then practice after we've both rested. I know how much you want to get it down, but it takes time. Believe me,I would know."
He nodded. "I guess you're right."
I walked into the house and got two glasses down from the cabinet. I poured myself a glass of iced green tea and handed him the glass full of water. Sitting down at the small table, I decided it was time for questions and figure out what the deal was with him.
Obviously he wasn't lying when he said he had talents, but I want to know the story behind it. It seems as if he was born with those talents though. His eyes match the color of the ice he forms and his voice was as smooth as the frozen cubes he was putting in his drink. His lips were so kissable.. I wonder what it would be like..
No. I couldn't think like that. Granted he was attractive, but we were total opposites. I'm fire, he's ice. It's just not going to happen.
Still though. One can wonder, right?
He took the chair across from me and smiled as he took his first sip.
"This really means a lot to me. I'm glad you agreed." He smiled and took another drink.
I nodded. "It's not a problem really. If you don't mind me asking,uhm.. Sorry. I forgot your name."
"Oh! I don't remember ever telling you. Sorry, dear. My name is Gerard. Gerard Baize."
"Oh. So,Gerard, how did you acquire your talents?"
"I figured this would come up. I'm guessing you've noticed the color of my eyes already? They stand out quite a bit. Before I was born, my mother had another child before me. My brother. He was a big dreamer, or so I was told. I wasn't born yet when he died, that's the reason I want to see him so terribly.
"When he was around twelve, there was a big snowstorm. My parents had to go to work, but school was cancelled and he was home alone. He invited some friends over for a snowball fight, but it all went wrong. There was a fire hydrant hidden under a pile of snow. They got to rough housing and he hit his head. It severed his spine, killing him instantly. His friends figured he was just messing with them and they went home. It snowed later that afternoon before anyone got home, covering his body in snow. When my mom got home and noticed he wasn't there, she figured that he was at a friends house. When it came night time though and he hasn't contacted them, she worried. His body wasn't found until the snow started to melt. He had been trapped in the snow and ice for so long. My mom found out that she was having another child when they put him in the ground. That child was me."
He looked down into his half empty glass as if it held all of life's answers. A single tear slipped from his left eye and plopped onto the spot beside his glass. I stood up and walked to where he was sitting. I got down on my knees and put a finger under his chin. Wiping the tears trail from his face with my sleeve, I gave him a small smile.
"I think it's incredible that you care so much about someone that you never even met. I'm glad that you want to learn from me."
He smiled at me. Leaning down so our faces were only inches apart, he looked at me with his icy blue eyes and smiled. "Learning from you is a pleasure."
He scooted a little closer so that the gap between us was even smaller. He was going to kiss me. This was the moment of truth. He leaned in and that was it. Our lips were touching.
It felt so incredible and magical, yet it hurt something terrible. My lips were hotter than lava while his felt so cold like a winter day. It hurt, but we couldn't stop. It's like there was something us holding us to that spot and if we were to stop nothing in the world would be right again.
I opened my eyes just a little to see his expression. To my surprise, his were open too. His cold gaze was studying mine. When our eyes met though, he smiled. I felt it on my lips and saw it in his eyes. In this moment, he was all I needed.
In that moment, I swear, we were the only two people in the world. Nothing would've made us pull apart.
Except for the crash in the next room. Was that glass breaking?
I didn't want to pull apart, but I knew I had to. When we did, it felt like I had forgotten how to breathe. He had been filling my lungs with air and I needed him again.
He pulled me close to him and wrapped his arm around my waist. Together we faced the unknown in the next room.
