Hey, so this is my first story! It's partly based on my real friend Z and partly on my own life! There's a bit of time travel here and there that can get confusing so feel free to clarify any doubts if you have any! Enjoy. Thank you for reading! :)
12th November 2009
My twelveth birthday.
A miserable piece of birthday cake lay on the hard wooden table, waiting to be devoured. A weak amber flame flickered just aboved it.
I looked around the empty room. "Guess i'll have to find my own company." I thought sadly, it was just like last year,
I sighed and closed my eyes. The enchanting melody started to play, lifiting my mind gently up. Everything started to dissolve into the background. I was lifted higher and higher, further and further from my desserted home...... Before I knew it, everything vanished in a chime and here I was on the other side of the world.
I gently floated down into the familiar dull grey settings of Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
The second i landed, one thought hung in my mind. Where was she this time? But before i could even look around, the clouds above started to empty their buckets on me. My vision blurred as i ran to where the town folks called the Black alley to take cover. I leaned back against the weather-beaten walls panting hard.
My eyes soon rested upon my darked-haired friend trembling in a corner of the alley. "There you are."I mumbled, a wave of relief washing over me.
I trudged solemly towards her, already noticing prominent new new scratches across her pale cheeks.
My forehead puckered in a frown , " now where did that come from?"
I sat silently crossed -legged beside her. I was overwelhmed with empathy. Oh the poor child. Normally i wouldn't have cared less. I actually even hate children. But this special child was different.
Over the many years that I've known her, I gradually become attached to her. I 'visited' her almost every night, silently watching over her. No she couldn't see me. No one over here could. I was what you would call the replica of a lost spirit. The melody would just come and carry me here, far away from my home, and I could only go back once the melody returned and took me back...
Suddenly, the wind's tense thrumming abruptly changed into an unearthly shriek ,jolting me out of my thoughts. The small figure beside me emitted a shrill cry. She trembled violently and curlded up into a tight ball, making a meger attempt to keep warm. At this rate, she's surely to develop a phemonia. Anxiety started to build up in me. There was nothing I could do to help. I gulped and looked at the freezing child.
"You have to stay strong." I whispered into her ear. " You must pull through this."
She grimaced in pain and slowly but surely , made an attempt to sit up. She blinked and stared into my panic-stricken face. I gazed back into her hazel eyes. Behind all that pain and sorrow was a beautiful face i would regconise anywhere.
"Thank you." She smiled, her voice ever so pure.
I gasped and drew back. No way. "Y-y-you can see me?Y-you could actually heard that?" My eyes widened in amazement.
"Sure I can." She chuckled. "Goodbye."
Before I could enquire further, the melody came back and swooshed me back to my old crummy kitchen. I fell back into my chair. What just happened? My head turned to the old-fashioned wall clock. A minute had passed. I looked down at my half-melted dairy treat as a pair of hazle eyes flashed through my mind.
I closed my eyes again and muttered something barely audible, before blowing out the dying flame. "Goodnight Z, take care." i whispered.
The kitchen went pitch black.
