I woke up to sun streaming through the attic window.

Another sunny day to waste away eternity. I headed downstairs where Ana was making scrambled eggs. Dezarae was in her room crying in her crib, Thomas hurried up the stairs past me to calm her down. I walked into the kitchen and jumped up onto the counter.

"Worst interview ever." Ana mumbled to herself.

"Aw come on it couldn't have been that bad," I said encouragingly. She opened a jar of baby food and put it in the microwave. Thomas came in holding a screaming baby who was not to be hushed.

"Would you hold her honey? I still can't get her to calm down."

"That's because she's hungry Tom." She took the baby food out of the microwave, "Shit!" The jar fell to the floor and green slop splattered everywhere.

"What happened?" Tom and I said together.

"I burnt myself on that stupid jar!" She said rushing to run her hand under the sink. Tom got some ice and pushed it into her hand.

"Are you okay honey? What's got you so upset this morning?" So Thomas noticed something was up.

"My job interview. Apparently I'm 'not qualified for the position.' Four years of college and I can't get a job to save my life!"

"We'll find one Ana, I just know we will."

I glanced over at Dezarea, "Look out!" I cried rushing to catch her but too late. With a crash and a scream, her highchair tipped over and toppled onto the floor. At least Ana had her mind taken off of that stupid interview. They spent half an hour calming her down then Tom had to leave for work and Ana took the now calm Dezarae to the kitchen to eat. I sighed and looked out the window. There was a little bird chirping by the windowsill. Maybe today could still be a good day.

At lunch, Tom called Ana. She put the phone on speaker while she changed Dezi's diaper which gave me the perfect opportunity to listen in.

"I called a locksmith about getting the basement door open." I turned and looked down the stairs at the door in question. "He says it'll have to be next Thursday." They hadn't been able to open it since they moved in which was a month and a half ago.

"That late? Why not this week?"

"He says he's going out of town and won't be back until then."

"That's fine I suppose. We've waited this long haven't we?"

"Or you could just forget about that stupid door and move more stuff into the attic," I suggested hopefully. Of course, she didn't hear me. Nobody ever heard me. The only one who could hear me was Dezarae and she's not exactly the most helpful person right now. I walked down the stairs and plopped down on the last one, staring at that stupid door and willing what was behind it to simply disappear.
