The Open Door

I slept through all of Wednesday and part of Thursday. The locksmith was due in a week and I hadn't heard anything from the man Singer or the Winchesters. Did they think my call was some kind of a joke?

While I was passed out Ana had found a job, albeit nothing more than serving food at the local diner, and the mood in the house seemed to be hopeful. I even heard Tom whistling to himself while he was doing the dishes. The thing in the basement didn't try to get out and it was so nice outside that Ana even left several windows open around the house. If I imagined hard enough I could almost feel the breeze on my face, something I truly missed about living.

I was sitting in front of that stupid door, moonlight was streaming through the window at the top of the stairs when Dezarae started to fuss. I hurried upstairs and pushed the door open to my- her room and walked quietly, forgetting I couldn't be heard, to her crib.

"Hush, hush," I cooed, "You don't want to wake up mommy and daddy. You know how hard they've been working." Dezi stopped crying and looked at me, right at me! "That's my girl." I smiled, she could see past all the veils that hid me from the world, could hear me when I told her to quiet down, and never once ignored me when I called to her. Every word I spoke was heard by her tiny ears and she seemed to love me...

Something creaked downstairs. I raced to the bottom of the stairs but the basement was still quiet. The front door rattled and I walked to it cautiously. A couple of big men stood on the porch, one of them was rattling the doorknob and the other one was holding- a walkman?

"Waddya think Sammy?" The shorter guy said, "Think this is really something? I mean Bobby said whoever was on the phone, this Muse person, wasn't very open about the details."

"There was EVP all over the call Dean. Something tells me they were really talking about a haunting." I stepped closer to the door and the walkman-thing started to whirr and light up like it sensed me!

"There's definitely something in there. The EMF meter is maxing out." I backed away from the door. Sam and Dean Winchester? They actually came! But how could I be sure they were who I thought they were? If I opened the door I could be letting in a couple of psychos who could be capable of anything. But they came. Would they listen to me or just treat me like any other ghost?

"I checked the real estate records and the only 'Muse' that's ever lived in this house disappeared a year ago. I wonder if she died here." The man named Dean scoffed.

"And what? She somehow called Bobby to have us put her to rest? That's absurd." I took a deep breath, stepped forward and the door swung open.
