It was time. Time for me to finally leave this place. The place that I've never left since birth. I was certain that everything would seem alien to me once I left, but that is what I was both excited and scared for. I've never seen the ocean, green fields filled with flowers, or that fluffy, white snow that I've only ever seen in the movies. All I've ever known up until this point was desert and dead land. I've lived a pretty sad life, now that I think about it.

Then again, it was kind of nice to be somewhere that stayed the same throughout my life. The neighbors were the same, as were my friends, and that was something that I was okay with. Everyone in this town knew everyone else, and that was kind of cool. I liked to live in a small community like that. But that was all over for me now. I am finally leaving the nest to explore all that the world has to offer.

I stood side-by-side next to Lauren and Max, gazing upon the town that I was leaving behind. With my bags all in the trunk of the car, I knew that it was time to go. I had thought that my mom, sister, and best friend would be here to say goodbye, but no one came. That kind of broke my heart, but I guess it made it a little easier to leave.

My farewell thoughts were interrupted by my phone buzzing in my pocket. When I took it out, I saw that I had a text from my mom that read: Hi, Mila! I just wanted to let you know that you left your toothbrush here this morning. If you want, you could come and pick it up before you leave. Love you!

I could have sworn that I had packed up my toothbrush, so I texted back: I'm pretty sure that I have my toothbrush, don't I? If I didn't, I could always go and buy myself a new one.

I felt Lauren's eyes on me as I waited for a text back. She asked me, "Is everything alright, Camila? Did your mom text you?"

"Yeah," I started, "good guess. Apparently I left my toothbrush at home."

"You know, Camila. Toothbrushes are pretty cheap at any store that you go to, but to save a quick buck, you might want to grab that." she told me.

I nodded, then my phone buzzed again. When I read my mom's next text, I knew that I had to go back. The text read: I don't know, Camila. It's your One Direction Tooth Tunes toothbrush. You might not want to forget that.

"It's not just any toothbrush. I have to go and get it!" I exclaimed, starting to sprint towards my house that was only about one hundred feet away.

Lauren shouted, "Camila, wait up!" Then she began to follow close behind me.

Once I had gotten to my house, I burst through the door only to see my closest friends and neighbors holding a going away party for me. There was a banner that read 'Good Luck, Camila!' on it, a small cupcake for me, and a few gifts that were scattered on top of my kitchen table. In the kitchen stood Normani and her family, my own family, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob, and everyone else that I held near and dear to me.

"Wow!" I exclaimed, holding my hands up to my face. "This is incredible! Lauren, did you know about this?"

"I may have helped plan it a little." she smirked.

My mom stood forward and said, "Do you really think that we'd let you go without saying goodbye?"

I laughed, then embraced my mom in a final hug. All of the other people in town hugged me goodbye, except for Sofia and Normani, who I had been saving for last. When I approached Sofia, she looked both sad and happy for me at the same time.

"I'm going to miss you, Mila!" she exclaimed, reaching her arms up to me in order to hug me.

I embraced my small sister and said, "I'll miss you too, Sofi!"
