Samuel stood in front of us, still thinking deeply about whether or not I was going to be signed on to Lauren's act. I didn't understand what was so hard about this decision, especially after seeing the whole crowd get into our performance together. The crowd had gone nuts for us, and I was only one word away from making it. And that word was yes.
Lauren's manager looked at me, Lauren, then at the head of the record label. His eyes finally dropped to the ground, then back at Lauren and I. He let out a stress-filled sigh, then finally looked like he was ready to give us an answer.
"Here's the deal." he said finally. This sounded like it was a good sign. "I'll give you guys a one album trial period. Find your opening act, record an album, go on tour. If the company sees that you've done well, we'll sign you two together for good. However, if things don't work out, she needs to go back to where she came from."
I squealed with excitement like a child, then threw my arms around a wide-smiling Lauren. When I realized how informal I was being about the situation, I took a deep breath and said, "Thank you for giving me a chance, sir. You guys won't regret this decision."
"Very well, you've gotten past me. Now let's see what your boss has to say about this." he stated, turning all attention towards the man standing beside him.
"Hello, Camila. My name is Mr. Johnson, and I'm the head of the label." he said, holding out him hand to me.
I shook his hand and replied, "It's a pleasure to meet you."
"As it is for me to meet you. Although I appreciate Samuel here to make bold decisions, I have to say that I disagree with him. Sorry, Samuel." he said.
A frown built onto my face at his words. He must have hated the performance a lot if he were to disagree with the guy who was hired for the betterment of Lauren's career. I gazed over at the girl holding my hand next to me, and she had the same look on her face as I did on mine. It sucked to be so close to making my dreams come true when I was only just a yes or no away. I guess dreams were called dreams for a reason. They probably won't happen.
I dropped my head in shame at his words and said in a low tone, "I'm sorry to have wasted your time, Mr. Johnson."
"What are you talking about?" he asked, causing me to perk my head up. "I loved the performance. I want to sign you on permanently. I'd like to sign the two of you on the label for three consecutive albums. There may be more than that depending on how long the hype for you two lasts. Will you guys accept the deal?"
Lauren and I split apart and began to jump about the area like wild zoo animals on the loose. We embraced each other and started to breathe way too quickly due to our heart rates increasing.
"I'll just get the papers from my car." he laughed, walking back to the car a few feet behind them.
Samuel leaned forward and whispered to the two of us, "Hey! We did it."
Lauren broke apart out hug and told him, "Good work, Samuel."
"What?" I asked.
"Later." she smiled.
Mr. Johnson returned to us with the contract that we needed to sign in order to make this official. He placed it on the table that Lauren and I had sat at previously so it was possible for us to make readable signatures on a hard surface. Lauren grabbed a pen from the table and signed the contract immediately, without even bothering to read it. When it was my turn to sign, I went over the fine print to make sure that there weren't any things that I disliked.
