Chapter 29

“I guess she isn’t a very good cousin.”

Was Alex talking about me? I was Austin’s cousin of course… But he’s my boyfriend. He wouldn’t talk bad about me behind my back… especially when I’m in the same house as him.

“No, Alex. If I went for it, I would be the bad cousin. Look, just… no. Ok I might not even like her anymore,” Austin said.

He was talking about me. I took step forward to hear them better.

“Are you sure?” Alex asked.

“I’m sure. Olivia is my cousin. If it bothers her so much, I won’t go for it,” Austin said then they stopped talking for a few minutes.

I figured I would wait a minute before I went down so they didn’t know I was eavesdropping.

When the minute passed, I went downstairs and Austin sitting with Alex.

“Olivia I’m sor-,” Austin started but Mrs. Mahone interrupted him.

“Olivia I think you have some explaining to do,” she said and sat next to Austin on the couch.

I raised an eyebrow at her.

“What?”

“Look I know you’re hiding something and you have been ever since you got here and I think it would be easier if you just told us all,” she explained.

“Um, I-I,” I stuttered.

“Olivia please! I told you mine!” Austin yelled.

“Huh?” Mrs. Mahone asked and raised an eyebrow at Austin.

“I wasn’t talking to you,” he said and then turned towards me. I sighed. They weren’t going to give up were they?

“Olivia, I’m sick of the secrets. I’m sick of the drama. Just tell us. We’ll never talk to Sarah again. We can all hang out together again. It will be just like it was before you saw Sarah again at the movie theatre,” Austin explained.

“You won’t believe me,” I complained.

“I’m at the point where I will believe anything!” Alex yelled. I shut my eyes tight. Now was the time.

“Fine,” I said.

“Yay! Now sit,” Austin demanded and pointed to a chair beside the couch. I walked over to it and sat down. I took a deep breath and then started talking.

“Ok… as you know, my parents are dead. But Landon and my younger brother Pete are dead too. Sarah… she bullied Landon until he committed suicide. And she accidentally threw a rock at Pete and he died. She always called him “Pe-tard” and… then Zach liked her so he obviously chose her side. I started ignoring her and then he made a big deal out of it. They started bullying me every day until they moved to Texas,” I mumbled while staring at my hands.

“You expect us to believe sweet Sarah would do that?” Alex yelled.

“You said you would believe anything,” I muttered without looking up.

“But believing she would kill someone? And did any of you know about this ‘Pete?’” Austin asked.

“She did have a little brother named Pete, Austin. And sadly… well they both did die. I just don’t know how. All I knew is Landon killed himself from ome harassment,” Mrs. Mahone said finally speaking up.

“So… it’s true?” Alex asked. I looked up at him.

He looked so confused and sad.

It was kind of cute.
